Message boards...

This is from TOS... Apparently Jason Crooms mother is a big poster over there and had this to say.

"There are a lot of good things coming and good people coming to visit.* Not just ex-VOLS.

A lot of what breaks the team spirits is not just losing a game, but he fans and fan boards.* They read the BS that's posted here from time to time and what you guys think about what's going hurts worse than a rival team* or media."

She also goes on to say that the team is coming together like a brotherhood because of it. What do you think about this? Is this an overreacting mother? Or do you think her son is telling his mom that this actually happens?

**By the way, I know the rules about pasting from other sites. I don't claim this as my own and no sensitive information that one would pay for is revealed, therefore this post does not in anyway look to undercut TOS.**

Definitely the words of a mother bear. Doesn't invalidate their truth, however.

It would be a shame if a team was having to band together against the tantrums of their own fanbase, tho. Bad mojo.

So more blaming the fans.

So if I go through UT again and this time major in Theater Arts and can only get a job as a bar-tender or coffee shop artist... I can blame the school and the other students?

Why not just own up for the fact that this team is about as underwhelming as a team can get? It gets hit with Troubles and it just quits. It quit in 2010. It quit in 2011. It quit against Florida.

The fans rallied around this team and this team quit on itself, the school, the fans, the coaches, etc. Fans will come back but we've been burned a lot in the last 5 years. It will take something resembling proof... and not just an aberration or a fluke win.

Beat UGA and USC and you'll have the fans back.

In the words of the great Bobby "Slick" Leonard...JUST WIN BABY !!!:rock::rock:

You will not find me bashing players, but more the fact they deserve better than what they have been given as leaders. There is nothing guaranteed to hurt recruiting than keeping this group of underachievers together. It is beyond me how far we have fallen as a program, and I am afraid it is about to get worse. With the total lack of leadership how do you think they are going to respond to getting drummed the next 4 weeks in a row? I would say worse than whatever pain the message boards caused.

Well, considering it is just a game, I would say it is not worse than someone calling you out on a message board. Take Palardy for example, there has been some really stupid stuff said about that kid. People should be ashamed at the way they act.

Side note: Since you own a business, riddle me this. Do you fire the manager or the peons first? If your employees mess up, who is responsible? The manager, you? If you relate it to football, your manager goes first, but you are responsible for that manager so is your seat hot? So there is no correlation in football and business.

I know one thing, If I'm a player, I would stay far, far away from the Vol Message Boards!!

If players do visit the boards, they need to keep in mind that the thoughts and opinions displayed here do not reflect the vast majority of Vols fans.

OR the 35,000 that didn't show up Saturday. :)

I have always believed that many of the "fans" on here are trolls from rival teams trying to tear down our team and players. When "fans" on here hope that our coach will be fired, I can assure that they are not real supporters of the Tennessee Vols. Players, the negative trolls on message boards do not represent the vast majority of UT fans, who support you during the tough times.

It's not just a game. To UCLA----(they had 30k empty seats when they were undefeated and ranked 19) it IS just a game. Not in the SEC.

Well the buck stops with me, but it is up to my managers to get the highest potential out of each employee. If I realize I do not have a true leader in a management position, it is my fault he is there. The difference is I make the correction as soon as I realize someone is not the right guy for the job, otherwise it is unfair to those they are leading in any production-commission oriented business model. It would be very destructive to not make a change as soon as you realize a change is needed. I assure you these players are hanging their head during the games and not playing with spark because they have been given a leader whose ability to lead is far surpassed by his players abilities, thus we see the whole thing spinning out of control.

I will say this, Jason Crooms mother rules! She is a VFL! My other thought is most of what is stated on this forum and others is just speculation. It is ok to be passionate about Tennessee football but at the end of the day you have to remember it is a experience. Good or bad it is worth it.

I'm new here, but I'm beginning to believe there are a lot of gator, BAMA, and bulldog fans that have infiltrated these boards. You guys, WE, are as much a part of the team as anybody. if ya'll dont believe, who will? good GOD, we have a team that CAN do this, so why not give them some positivity?

I agree 100% with momma Crooms (I think she posts on this board under the name mzterry). It is one thing for fans to critique coaching, play calling, other fans, etc. It is another thing to berate the players and make subjective assesments of the performance on the field. There is so much we, as fans, simply do not know about play calling, schemes, and the fundamentals of what it takes to compete at an elite level. We would like to know, we pretend to know, and unfortunately we set our expectations (unrealistic or not) of what we think we should see on the field. When the reality doesn't meet our level of expectations, we lower the boom on everyone. Fans and players can all agree that losing is no fun. My team's loss is not a reflection on me as a person. My team's victory doesn't improve the quality of the important things in my life.

Calling players losers, quitters, lazy, indifferent, etc doesn't define those players...it defines those of us who are labeling the players. We can all do a better job of seperating the performance we don't like from the player we do like. After all, these guys had many colleges pursuing them and they made the choice to play a game we love for the college we support.

We should all consider that these are young men. How many of us made good decisions all the time at that age? As a person who is 41, I know there are many mistakes I made in college and would like the opportunity to go back and make a better decision. Maybe these players will feel the same as they age and look back. Maybe not. But I am hopeful that we as fans can always look back on our support with pride.

No really, it is just a game.

In the SEC---football is a religion. Well known statement. Weddings are planned AROUND football. Football is talked about 365 days a year; Sports talk shows thrive in the South.

Don't tell me it is just a game. It is life to some, and actually to more fans than the ones that consider it just a game. Of course literally speaking, but that does not apply here. I guess sometimes a hammer is required.

No really, it is just a game. If football effects your life so much that you are miserable, step back and reflect.
