#1 - Chris Lofton is a fantastic college basketball player, who just so happened to have his career night against us.
#2 - When your star/leader is hot the rest of the team feeds off of that. The playground shots by Bradshaw, Crews, et al are the kind that every team makes 2 or 3 charmed games per year (you know, the kind of game where the cover of the CA the next day has a big pic of our starters on the bench celebrating some sick shot that goes in courtesy of Chance McGrady.)
#3 - Our most talented player (and it's not even close) continues to allow himself to be taken out of the game by silly head games the opponent throws at him. Joey finished with 13 rebounds in 15 minutes.
That's on pace for a 35 rebound night....
Let that sink in.
When he's in the game, early in the 2nd half, they had no layups, and missed most of their mid-range stuff badly.
Simply put: with Joey on the floor and in the game, we are a Final Four juggernaut. With Joey playing 15 minutes per game, we are still an above-average team but we cannot afford to play flat or run into a team that's hot.
Tonight Joey played 15 minutes, we played flat, and they played great.
I really do think the light will come on soon for Joey. The look on his face after he fouled out, and sat down on the bench, was not his old look of defiance, but one of disappointment. When he becomes dependable, he could be the kind of guy that puts us on his back and carries us.
Here's hoping the light comes on soon.
