Memphis coach

Just remember...Penny was so dumb Memphis couldnt get him eligible out of HS (Prop 48). Memphis got Derrick Rose "eligible" and he couldn't spell C-A-T if you spotted him the C and the A.
U get a "like" from me for breaking out a Hollywood Henderson quote about Terry Bradshaw from the early 80s

It's in a story posted on the main page of ESPN. Just read it. Really pathetic and disgusting verbal display by a supposed adult who is paid a lot of money by the University of Memphis to mold the characters of young men.

If he really resorted to that kind of behavior after getting called out for what the rest of the world clearly saw, his time at Tiger High will be brief. That's just not acceptable for leaders of young athletes. If he thinks RB is "low class," he might want to check with the rest of the ENTIRE BASKETBALL UNIVERSE.

Couldn't happen to a more deserving school and city.

Just another thug trying to promote his sorry job as something important. Haha Tiger High has never been anything and never will be. They have always been scrubs that couldn't get into Ole Miss. Life sucks at Tiger High, get use to it Penny.
Made it farther then we have in the tourney

Stupid Memphis fans already hyping that “just wait till next year” ****. Yeah, we’re fearful of your lineup full of freshmen and sophomores that’s being coached by someone who can’t coach. Give me a break.

I cannot agree that the word 'thug' really applies here. Penny may be mad because his team lost. He may be trying to motivate his players. He may be trying to stir-up the fans so they'll buy more tickets. He may believe that there's no such thing as bad publicity. He may be out of line. But I don't think the word 'thug' is applicable here.

How about "punk"? And I don't mean in a good way, like punk rock.

Sorry Memphis, we don't have to wait until next year. Because unlike you guys, we're actually good; and we don't have to resort to flopping to stay in the game.

1000%. This is all about creating hype for the "disrespected" youth he's recruiting. Like him or not, this is like Trump making a statement whether it's true or not, and then doubling down on the statement to fire up his constituency. Penny doing the same thing..."us against the world" thing, and figures any attention to his club (coming off biggest attendance in years) is good attention. He may or may not be able to do much at Memphis, but it'll be a fired up game next year in Knoxville, for sure. We've got bigger fish to fry. See ya next year when we'll have our fists ready.

It feels very "WWE" like to me; like he's trying to cut a promo on Barnes.

The problem is, outside of the WWE and UFC, this behavior is hardly respected.

I mean if he’s going to act childish like that, Rick Barnes could just not schedule Memphis at all. And then you miss out on getting to play a quality team from the SEC every year. He needs to chill out and slow his roll. He’s lucky Rick Barnes even considered renewing the series. They aren’t a quality win for us. We didn’t have to play them. Seriously man your best win is against YALE. Memphis needs UT more than UT needs Memphis. He’s already burning bridges because he’s salty that our team plays like a bunch of grown men and he got out coached. Take the L like a man and move on.

I saw in the comical appeal that he said to watch the film and see the fist toting guys coming his way. Called RB out. I taped the game and watched the ending 4 times and still have not seen any fist but all kinds of flopping. Penny has turned into a Puss!
Is now a Bigger Puss than ever!

I can't help but recall that the doctor spelled his name A-n-f-e-r-n-e-e on his birth certificate because his mom couldn't spell or pronounce Anthony which was the name she was trying to give him. If you can't even properly pronounce your child's name, then, more than likely, the child is going to be intellectually challenged.

Tennessee wishes it had the success in basketball that Memphis has had. 2 Runner Ups, 3 Final Fours, 6 Elite 8s, 11 Sweet 16s vs 1 Elite 8, 7 Sweet 16s and a "we beat Florida 3 times in 4 years when they won back to back championships" and a "we beat Kentucky the year they won a National Championship". And before you get up on your high horse about "vacated" seasons and cheating, you might want to listen to the Keith Easterwood and Tony Harris podcast from last week that tells the story of how Tony's uncle and family "sold" him to UT when he wanted to play for Memphis.

Let me guess.... but you’re ok with Penny denying the truth and acting very unprofessional?

Your comments above make a stronger statement (most of them at least) if you don’t stand by his immature statements. If you do stand by them then you sound like a 4th grader arguing with his friends. No education, no knowledge.... just dumb, blind, meaningless, watered down facts and ignoring that your coach is classless.

Yet we are here in 2018, Vols are #3 in the country and just handed Memphis yet another L.

11-15 all time against the Big Orange does not point to Memphis being historically superior either.

I used to like Penny, heck I played against him in High School and he was a nice guy even though he dunked on me. But, his comments on Barnes and the false narrative that he is pushing will come back on him. With the AAU system being investigated, his name will come up somewhere.

I see the Memphis-area education system has let down another poor, misguided youth.

Thoughts and prayers.
