So my RN family contact said she would definitely consider NHC Farragut. The memory unit is brand new. She did say they have had staffing difficulties, but no different than everywhere else.

Does anyone have first hand experience and/or recommendations? I think we may have to move my father soon (end of the year) and he will want to stay around Knoxville. Been fighting this for too long

I moved my Dad into an Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility 5 months ago and it has been a really really good experience so far. I know that it is about an hour and 10 mins from Knoxville, but the new Baysmont Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility At Asbury Place is a wonderful facility here that I would recommend without blinking an eye. The building is new, the staff are wonderful and the food is very good. The cost are competitive, but still a serious chunk of change monthly. If you don’t mind just a tad bit over an hour from Knoxville I would highly recommend you take a look at Baysmont.

Interesting option since he's a Kingsport native (he and his parents were both D-B grads). Not to be morbid but it's also where he will be buried

Good to hear your dad is being taken care of. We're not close enough to be there as much so that's an important factor

If you by chance should choose Baysmont, I could check on him from time to time and give you updates since I’m there 4 or 5 days every week. It’s not a huge facility and I practically know all the residents there by name.

Are you talking about the one in Johnson City (well, it used to be there)? My aunt had a nice apartment there, and they had the medical facilities to take care of her. That was a few years ago. I'm not sure if it's moved or not. We were very satisfied with Asbury Center for sure.

My dad stayed there for therapy after knee replacement and we were very pleased

No it’s in the Allendale community of Kingsport right across from Allendale Mansion.

My Grandparents and Dad were at Morning View in Maryville, and it was a good experience.
Yes, my in-laws were at Morningview on the Townsend side of Maryville. They were together there as long as they could be, until she needed to move to the memory unit. He passed a couple of yrs ago. It was a pretty good place, though.

Your decision should be based on your father’s diagnosis. If he has Alzheimer’s/dementia, then you need to base that decision on that. Some facilities have an ALF and memory care and others do not. If a facility does not have memory care and your father requires that, you will end up having to move him which COULD be detrimental to him. Key to dementia is routine imo! Differentiate from that and the move could be disaster.

Morning pointe, for example, is separated into 3. True assisted living and lantern/lamplight which is another building. Lamplight is residents with dementia that are higher functioning. Lantern is, for lack of a better word, lock down/end of the line. I left the Westland location in November of last year.

Currently, my home health position covers eastern/northeastern Knox co. I’m in several facilities there as the nurses are unable to provide skilled services per policy.

My recommendations are Trinity Hills and The Pointe at Lifesprings. I am at each facility a minimum of 3 times weekly and have yet to hear a patient complain. Staff are quite friendly. You just have to deal with the stigma of it being “East Knoxville”. Both have memory care units to transition to.

My counterpart on the west side of Knoxville said Pinnacle if you don’t think he would require memory care as they do not have one. Knox Landing is outdated but have staff that has been there for years and that’s says something in that line of work.

Arbor Terrace is a negative. Too many complaints and too much turnover.

Story Pointe was good at one point but staff turnover is terrible and it’s dated. Dated is fine when you have staff that stays and actually cares.

Morning Pointes are fresh and new. Pick the right one. I’m in the Powell location occasionally and it seems to be ok but I don’t know what is going on behind the scenes. I Like the nurses at the Westland location and I think they do a relatively good job, but the aides have too much on their plate. Turnover is crazy high. Not sure about Hardin Valley location.

Concord Place used to be Avenir I think. So no issues when I was going in there with another HH company. Couldn’t tell you anything else

The new hot place is Emory Mills in Powell/Halls. They been trying to open for 2 years I think and can’t pass inspection. Take that for what it’s worth.

Good luck man

Thanks for all the great info. He's been diagnosed with Alzheimers a couple years ago and is getting treatment at the Pat Summit clinic. My family is going to sit down with them again in a few weeks to hear exactly what's going on now. I just know he can't keep up with his current farm responsibilities as this progresses (27 beautiful acres in Corryton if anyone's looking 😁)

Sorry to hear about your dad. Unfortunately, the 27 beautiful acres will probably soon be 75 beautiful little $350K to $500K homes
