Honestly I never know when I leave home each day how long I'll be there. Could be 8. Could be 12 or could be 16. Makes it damn near impossible to make plans.
I'm a crew leader at a paper mill. I have had them spring on me that I'm not going anywhere five minutes until quitting time. If something screws up, I'm going nowhere. That would piss me off, I hate when they spring it on you. My work lets us know in advance. Plus it's generally the same time of the year. What do you do? If you don't mind me asking.

That sucks. When we get slow and lay people off, they want me to wait till they are clocking out. I tell them as soon as I'm told, that's a crappy way to do people. IMO

We don't have too many layoffs but the sorry bastages did have one a couple of years ago around Christmas. The three days of Christmas we get paid triple time. Cost these lower level guys about $60 bucks an hour.

They did that at my job one year, and didn't give the people that were laid off their Christmas bonus. Regular employees get a grand, they laid off 8 people. They treat me really well so personally I can't complain. But I don't like the people busting their butts, and getting cheated, that work under me.
People appreciate a good boss with your attitude.
I go to bat for them a lot with the owner. I just believe you should take care of the people that make the business go. It's funny cause the first shift supervisor and owner get a little aggravated I think. My shift always get me a gift and card for my birthday and Christmas. We are a pretty close group as far as work goes.

I am the type of guy who will give his all no matter what, but I can always give more whn I am taken care of ifthat makes sense. That is all ask for in a supervisor is have my back.
