Somewhere in between more often than not. You never know what offers are commitable and which are contingency plans for some schools.
Interior O-linemen are rarely ranked very high. And if they are someone will offer them a shot at tackle, like Utu last year and Gray this year. Hopefully we give Gray a shot a tackle to get him in the fold

Not long enough. Every website has him as an IOL. I doubt he thinks he’s gonna be a tackle at that height/length.

Prior to Baker’s commitment, Volquest caught up with his trainer, Najee Brown.

“I have been involved and had a relationship with Ed since his 8th grade year, and his growth has been amazing,” Brown said. “We are talking about potential wise, mentality wise, and physicality wise. The young man has done things that young men from this area don’t typically do. As a freshman, he was doing three-a-days. He would do two workouts with St. Frances, then come and train with me on the back end. His mentality from that kind of grow because he matured faster than others, which kind of stemmed to him being one of the top leaders and guys for one of the top programs right now. St. Frances is prevalent and has top recruits and everything, but he is one of those guys that can say he has been there and been all-in and handling business as a leader.”

So what is it about Baker’s game that sets him apart?

“The one thing that sets him apart is his IQ,” Brown said of this. “When it comes down to the Xs and Os, he is able to play a chess game. I would say that in pass pro and run game, from understanding body parts and different movements. His IQ is one of his major attributes when it comes to him being a stellar athlete. After that part, I would say his stellar foot work. He is a guy that wears a size 17 cleat, and when you have a guy that is that big, you don’t expect those agile movements from him. That is something we hang our hat on just due to the fact that he was a heavy-footed guy and getting his feet movable. He was very keen on being a big skill and making sure we can move as fast as these defensive ends.”

What does this mean for the OL room?

Baker has been a priority for months for the Tennessee staff. He was a focal point in the spring during the contact period, and they really laid the groundwork to win this recruitment during that time. Baker joins Gabriel Osenda in this class and gives Tennessee a high-upside prospect on the interior of the offensive line in this class that allows plenty of positional flexibility.

This is a key add for the Vols as Ole Miss made this interesting down the stretch. Baker had multiple SEC opportunities, with Penn State also showing plenty of interest in the spring and trying to get him on campus in June.

So what is next?

The recruiting trail is heating up for the Vols with a number of announcements still to come. On the offensive line front, Brandon Anderson is next up to announce. He could still very well end up in this class, but we will see what Tennessee elects to do with him now that they have added Baker to the interior.
