The fast food industry as we know it would cease to exist at $15/hr. The only draw for a place like BK or McDonalds is price. You take that away many of these ff franchises will go out of business. These people are pricing themselves out of jobs and too dense to realize it.

Some jobs pay you for what you do. Some for what you know. When anyone can do what you do, you make less money.

McDonald
About 2,000 protesters, including about 325 McDonald’s workers in restaurant uniforms, stormed though the company’s campus entrance at Jorie Boulevard and Kroc Drive in Oak Brook, according to the organizers, holding signs that said, “We Are Worth More” and “My Union My Voice.” The Oak Brook Police Department estimated the number was 1,000 to 1,500.

The protesters -- brought to the scene by 32 buses -- were joined by Service Employees International Union President Mary Kay Henry and William Barber, an official from the NAACP, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. About 110 people were arrested for trespassing, police said. The protesters who were arrested included McDonald’s (MCD) workers and 36 community, clergy and labor leaders, including Henry, according to the organizers.
they really aren't helping their cause

We have created an economy that removes the ability of individuals to live a "simple" life. We all have to now invest heavily at the earliest years of our lives to maximize our learning capacity in order to live like our parents generations for the most part.

Ask all of the highly trained people who are now out on the street because someone in Asia can do their job for 40% of the pay. We may all be working at McD's before it is over.

Power to the people! Right on!

Flipping burgers and working the drive through is not a career. It never was in the past, and it's still not present day.

If you started work at McDonald's and haven't been promoted in six months, it's time to look in the mirror and ask yourself, "What am I doing wrong?"

That is true. I am not advocating $15 per hour to flip burgers, that is ridiculous. Just a few decades ago, people could work low paying jobs and supports themselves and a small family without government assistance. That is not the case any longer. It is a sad reality, low wage (minimum wage or close to it) do need a wage increase. We have two choices, employers can pay a little more per hour or we will continue to see participates in the government assistance programs increase. Low wage workers should not expect smartphones, cable with all the channels, new cars etc. I do think if someone works full time they should earn enough to provide a simple life without government assistance.

Just a few decades ago a person could make a good living as a cobbler. Times change and people need to adapt and improve their skills.

I didn't earn enough to support myself when i was in high school. I worked full time in the summer. I guess that was back when it was considered normal.

People do need to adapt and improve skills. That is easier said than done. If everone did retrain for todays jobs , there would not be enough of those jobs available. We always have had and always will have a large demand for non skilled workers. I am not advocating for a minimum wage increase, at the same time we do need to pay the low wage workers enough to support themselves or continue allowing our entitlement program grow even further out of control. We can pay more or stop b***hing about welfare. If you know a better way let me know. We are at a major crossroads in American. We are on the verge of turning into a welfare state for the majority of our population

From your posting you pay your employees a livable wage, so did I. It can be done and companies can still be very successful.

We do pay very well, of course its hard work that requires skill.

Companies pay what their employees are worth to them, the burden is on the employee to make themselves worth more to either their employer or some one else.

I am not talking about high school kids. Most of them work 15 -20 hours to get a few bucks to blow.
Do you agree that someone that works 40 hours per week should be able to live a simple life without government assistance?

When people understand the difference between a need and a want, the better off this country will be. I say do away with most of the welfare plan and let mother ****ers sink or swim.

Only working 40 hours and making roughly 280 dollars a week I could survive. I could definitely do even more if I worked 70 hours a week though...........oh, but that's rough and too much like hard work.

That is good in thought Do you believe for one minute that the US Government will do that? The Dems nor GOP would not allow that to happen.

So it matters when the person is out of high school? I worked full time in the summer...still didn't make enough to support me.

No, I don't think working 40 hours entitles someone enough money to support the full lifestyle they want. Working in the drive through is not a career. It's not ever going to pay for a decent lifestyle. There's a long list of job choices that fit into the same category.

You could afford to pay your employees a good wage because they delivered more value to your business than they cost you.

Just because their ****ty, dead end job doesn't pay their bills doesn't mean I have to stop complaining about welfare. Or their out of wedlock children they brought into a life of poverty. Even raising the mandatory wages of the french fry fryer isn't going to make that problem go away.
