he lied about death threats, and didn't report it to the university, and couldn't provide anything to substantiate said death threats...no emails, no texts, no phone numbers, no twitter, no nothing.Just for snicks and giggles UF indicated they terminated McElwain "for cause." Sounds like he accepted it or took it for what it was. What was THE cause? I heard a nebulous explanation about not winning enough?!?!? Why can't we can CBJ for the same "cause?" Goodness knows he didn't win as much as McElwain did. Thoughts?
I don't see where they have said for "cause" maybe I have missed it. There are terms within is contract which spells out "for cause", from me skimming it... they would have to actually give him a hearing and review. I doesn't sound like any of that is being done so probably, they have reached an agreement. If they have not, than Florida is probably in very deep because they really don't have cause and they don't appear to be following any of the steps to fire him for cause.

It would be cause for not disclosing details of those threats against student athletes. It's a violation so serious that Florida decided to let him go ahead and coach because they take the security of their student athletes so seriously. He already admitted he was bring up the old death threats, assuming those were true. All of that is irrelevant though, meaning, that isn't really cause, and proof is in the pudding they let him coach and waited to see the outcome before firing him.
I assume they have an agreement in principle, if not, Florida is in the loser situation in a big way as the contract specifies what needs to happen.
They didn't have cause, if he was winning or he was a normal employee - nobody would care.
It's a dipspit way of getting out of his contract. Says more about the school than about the coach and any candidate for the job will take it into consideration. I hope UT has more class than to go that route. If not, I might be inclined to dump them (UT) just as quick.
We could try to find cause. It's ridiculous we don't try this. Worst that happens is that Jones Sue's us.
The cause?
Their athletic dept, president, boosters and fan base is serious about competing for championships. We are not.
Butch is too resilient and tough. McElwaine faked a hitman being after him and melted down. Butch would unleash unshirted hell on a stalker as would Ed Orgeron. Same was true of Majors and Fulmer - fine to hurl insults behind their backs - you would not want them one on one.
I'm betting this maneuver costs Florida more than it saves. Florida is a top ten job but not many people will work for a backstabbing AD that rips his employees off on the way out the door.
Exactly! In fact I believe that has already been pretty much agreed to. Mac doesn't need a messy "termination for cause" fight going on as part as his resume for another coaching hire. We got real lucky when Mac put that microphone in his mouth! Not from what Im seeing and hearing. Macs buyout was 12.9 million. No way in hell UF pays that. Ive heard theyll pay from 4-6 million, which would be a huge financial win for UF. Macs death threat comments gave UF huge leverage.
If Mac says I want the whole buyout. UF says prove you got death threats. Mac says oh, they were anonymous phone calls. UF says no problem, our lawyers will subpoena phone records. Or, Mac may say it was a random nut who said he wanted to kill me coming out of Burger King on University Ave. UF says, no worries, well pull surveillance cameras from the restaurant and adjoining restaurants to validate.
In other words, Jimmy Sexton steps in and whispers in Macs ear; hey man, too much trouble, well just take the 4 million.
