McElroy just said.....

you left out what McElroy said about JG. If you are going to start a thread about what McElroy said than it needs to have context. The question was about benching JG and his thoughts of JG play, his answer was spot on. He pretty much summed up that JG just can't read the defense and is continually late on throws. He also stated that he left points on the board and failed to put the game away.
And we were young at many positions.

Our talent level, besides QB, is good enough to beat everyone on our schedule but UGA and Bama.
We have 2 true freshmen on the OL, a true freshman at MLB, a true freshman starting at CB. Those are key positions where we severely lack experience. I'm sure those players will end up being really good, but it's going to take time.

he said he should not be benched because right not he is the only option do to inexperience, there fixed it for you. I much rather lose to inexperience than incompetence.
But now because of incompetence the guys behind JG are not getting any experience. the cycle only ends by benching JG.....

Just another excuse. We were reminded over and over again on this board that this team has top 15 national recruiting level talent this year.

I just have to disagree. We just lost to Georgia State and BYU. We are obviously not playing like a SEC team. You do bring up a very interesting point though. Are the recruiting services just bullS$%^ or are we just extremely unlucky in our recruiting. It seems like we should have talent but it is not translating to on field play. For example, the BYU offensive line just plowed our defensive line into the end zone to win the game Saturday.

I disagree with him, but we do lack talent at one critical position, QB. Saturday night the defense played well (outside of the Vol curse at the end), the line blocked well, the WRs were getting space, but our QB has regressed so much IMO. Talent isnt the issue, we have more talent than BYU and Georgia State. Our problem, Saturday night, was QB play.
Underrated post here!

I care less who McElroy played for, won't mention the team but since becoming an analyst, broadcaster and such I have grown much respect. He is very objective and sees both sides of the coin. Crazy, he doesn't pump that team across the state line either which is surprising. He called the TN and BYU game and he was spot on. His take on our QB situation should raise an eyebrow in the coaching staff especially JP. I am sure Chaney already knows all of this and after seeing JP get into the QB face I like to think he is well aware as well. The problem with some UT fans is they don't want to hear the truth. Heck, even Ryan Leaf saw the same thing McElroy saw but because of some TN fans have a distaste for him they turn a deaf ear.

Yeah that’s true. I didn’t want to hear what Ryann L had to say either! Because of past he squandered. But Greg M was calling out which plays we were going to run before we ran them. And which guys were even going to get the ball. I think some of the guys we have are talented - and of course some are young and inexperienced. They just don’t play that well. I think, coaches are too gun-shy about injuries they don’t let the guys practice hard and improve at game speeds.

We have a handful of star players. Let’s be honest how many of the guys would start at Bama, Georgia, Florida. We do have some talent (mostly in freshman). Saban could fix coaching issues, but it still wouldn’t makeup for the talent issue.

Last year the JG fans wanted to see what he would do with ample time in the pocket. Now you know. He couldn't hit a semi-truck in stride. He left 11 points on the board that are purely on his shoulders. We should have blown them out I agree, however, those 11 points make him look a lot better and we talk about how he improves vs. whether he gets another start or not.

Yes we are young but the awesome thing is most fans understand youth and can deal with youth, that is a legitimate reason to not be good. However, when you are an RS Junior, inexperience can no longer be an excuse; at this point it is incompetence. I have nothing against the young man he just doesn't have the intangibles to get it done. If we are to continue down this path of just not being good enough because the talent I would much rather start those young guys that have an upside so that they might get the experience and develop the talent needed to compete.

While yeah we have some TF playing all over the field, it wasn't the TF that lost us the game the other night. They all played fairly well and the OL gave JG time to make plays, the problem is he didn't make plays. He threw it behind, over, into the ground, into the other team's hands, he threw it every where but to his WRs.

McElroy pointed that out all night long, he was late on his throws. If we had a half way competent QB we would've won. I'm just wondering if Pruitt is finally going to bench him or not.

Finally someone who listen and understood what the man was saying!!!! Nothing "bad" about his comments just the cold hard truth. I for one am glad to here a "color man" not paint everything and everybody as the greatest and gonna be the best ever or that they are the best thing to ever happen to the world around them and they had nowhere to live with their 14 other family members and is planning to buy all of them a new house, car and etc as the "color man" KNOWS the will when they turn pro as a top draft choice. (I know long sentence, but it mirrors the long winded, babbling of the color men and now, women)

I think some of the coaching calls are made because they are well aware of the limitations of the personnel. People say the coaches are calling dumb plays, especially on offense but sometimes you are dealt a crappy hand and you have to play within the talent level. Unfortunately for us, it appears the QB prevents the fans from seeing the talent around him because he is the one distributing the ball and checking the plays. Greg M. even implied that Chaney's hand were tied and the playing calling was most likely due to the ability of the QB. Sad when the announcer even said just run the ball 4 times so that the QB doesn't make a mistake.

What more evidence is needed?

They are 9-17 in their last 26 games.

We can “think” things, but they’re not winning games, not making all-sec teams, not being drafted, etc.

Where’s the proof that the talent is at a higher level than he claims?

I agree JG is not the answer. The freshmen didnt play bad but I would much rather have Jr and Sr All Americans at those spots.

Problem is, from what I have seen, we have no JR or SR all American talent with the exception of JJ. Honestly though we probably do have more but some positions require the QB to make the reads and get them the ball. JJ is just a beast and can make any bad throw look good!
