We have more than enough talent to beat BYU and GA St. Something isn’t clicking though. At this point, my assumption as to what that is is the lack of a leader at QB and the talent in particularly important positions is immature. I don’t know what, if anything, can be done on either of those two things

Well you can disagree all you would like but our record supports his assumption. The fact that you had to call him a "bammer" shows your bias and inability to think objectively and rationally. As of now the talent is not quite there and much of that could possibly be due to inexperience. I can only assume this is how he views the situation as well. Also, don't get physical talent confused with mental aptitude. Some dudes can just have all the tools but no clue in how to use them at game time.

Talent is at the absolute bottom of SEC. Might be near top of OVC - debatable. Much of the "talent" that garnered the recruiting stars are redundant defensive backs that have not panned out. Nothing on defensive line - probably got a recruiting bump for the punter now at Florida - but no difference makers in upper class. No quarterbacks - some of top players are injured like Trey Smith - it all adds up to a journeyman roster that has its best talent which the jury remains out on - in the freshman class. Major rebuilding job that will take some massive recruiting work and luck to pull out of the ditch. Need to look high and low at JUCOs, transfers, any possibilities to turnover and upgrade the pitiful roster. Oh yeah see if one of the freshmen quarterbacks has football skills.

You are way off base, I have no problems thinking clearly, what makes you think G. Mc is a savant? Or you for that matter. The biggest problem UTs football team has is leadership, leadership at the head coach level.

It’s been that way for awhile now, just watch the players on the upper crust SEC teams Georgia, LSU, Bama compared to ours. It’s so easy to see the talent difference Stevie Wonder could see it.

I disagree, but when you take a combined look at talent AND experience he's probably right.

Eric Gray is one of the most talented running backs in the SEC. We've got some of the most talented linebackers. Three of the most talented offensive linemen... that should put us in the middle of the pack but they lack experience and need development. Same for Warren Burrell and Alontae Taylor. Our talent deficiencies are at defensive line, wide receiver, and quarterback, IMO.

And before I get grilled for saying wide receiver, let me explain. We've got some tall guys and we've got some tough guys, but go watch the Ruggs TD from the Alabama game Saturday... we don't have anything close to that kind of speed.

Your opinion, but there is nothing I said that isn't factual. Also, never said Greg M. was a savant but he did play the position in college pretty darn well and had a tenure in the NFL. Danny Kannell his co-host, also collegiate QB at FSU back in the day agreed with Greg sentiments. Do I need to go into how Ryan Leaf saw the game against GA State? When multiple people start noticing the same issues then you must have an issue. Not to mention this is how I and most of the fan base see it as well because we think with our heads and not our heart. I love TN football but I am also honest with myself and can rationalize. Again, the mere fact that you had questioned and assumed my views of McElroy shows me there is a lot of bias and when you have a bias you can't always be objective or rational. I can only assume you didn't hear to what McElroy said on the first team or how he called the game. Lastly, I do believe there is leadership and if you don't believe that then you might want to go and watch that BYU game again. The team for all its faults played hard and it is the first time in years where I saw no quite from finish to end. To have that kind of mentality unless there is leadership somewhere in the locker room. Again rational thinking.

He's right, the best players on the team are guys Pruitt has brought in, they're freshmen and sophomores so yeah they're making mistakes but they are still the better players. As a whole our team is near the bottom when it comes to not only talent but work ethic, most of the holdover players are used to a certain way of doing things and aren't going to buy in to a new way of life in terms of football. Yeah it sucks constantly being told it takes time but it's the way it is.

I am certainly not sticking up for Pruitt, not sure he ever gets it done, but the part that is encouraging is almost all the best players on the team are his guys. The majority of the best players are fresh and sophomores. I don't care about recruiting ratings, he has done a good job of identifying talent.

JG is killing us. We easily win this game with a competent QB. GS there really no defending that loss, but stuff happens.

JG's problem isn't talent. The kid is absolutely loaded with talent. JG's problem is being in the first yr of a completely new system that may not match his talent and hesitating because the system isn't 2nd nature yet.

For example, while JG isn't as big of a threat running the ball as Dobbs, he is capable of keeping the ball on a zone read from time to time and going spread on short yardage plays and forcing the D to play 11 on 11.

However, Chaney simply refuses to tweak his plan to utilize player's strengths and tries to ram that square peg into the round hole. So, with the game on the line you end up with a less than dominate OL trying to push guys out of a stacked box while handing the ball to a 190 lb back or a 180 lb wr.

Chaney did this in spades during his first yr at UGA. With a true frosh QB and a decent but not great OL, he forced a kid that came from a high school spread system to play under center in bunch formations. That lead to a team with 4 NFL receivers, a NFL TE, a first round LT an NFL guard and 2 NFL RBs to be a bottom 100 O. Simply put, JG is being asked to run an O he isn't familiar with and may not be suited to run.

JG has been the problem for the past 2 years..Qb drives the team..All he ever do is hold on to the ball..Even potential game winner against USC the ball he threw my nephew Brandon Johnson was thrown late..Brandon gotta alot of criticism because of it..

Yeah even the throws JG did make were either lucky or should have been picked. Receivers bailed him out several times. His reading of defenses and holding the ball to long has been a problem since his first start. At this point, being a junior, I don't think this will improve.

Can't believe 2 Vol fans liked this mess.

I remember a time when a Vol could criticize the Vols and it was okay, but if a gator did it, especially when he came over in a Vols own back yard, he'd leave with a bloody nose, not a pat on the back and a kiss.

Y'all disgust me.
