McCoy & Sanders?

Hobbs hope for Mississippi State
McCoy hope for Alabama but lot of chatter his advisors are pushing him to stay out and just prepare for the draft. No decision regarding that yet.
I didn’t go into detail (see yesterday’s post about McCoy), but that is what we were told Saturday. His advisors are concerned he may not be 100% if he returns this season. So, spend time rehabbing and prepare for the combine as it’s a controlled environment vs. playing against competition.

TN is preparing as if McCoy isn’t coming back. The film is out there for him to be a 1st round or early 2nd round selection.

If we don’t see McCoy in the next game or so, it doesn’t make sense for him to return.

Sanders should probably now wait until game 8 to protect redshirt.
Really?? It doesn’t make sense for him to play vs Bama OK and Vandy? What is your rationale for that conclusion?

I think that would be a big mistake for him and his family/handlers. That would give NFL teams an impression that he is a slow healer and that he may not be a player who, lf injured, could not make it back from an injury for long periods of rehab. That could drop him from a first round pick to a third or fourth round pick.

Last week 247 said they were targeting getting him some reps against UAB and increasing his PT against MSU, that way the bye week would give him a chance to recover. Unless there was a setback last week I see no reason to think he'll be out longer than that.

Edit: Just saw LWS post. Seems the 247 guys got some bad intel.

And since the NIL is not "pay for play", McCoy can walk away even tho he'd be healthy enough to play and they're still obligated to pay him. Crazy setup. Can't say I'm too wild about a lot of the details in this current arrangement.

Nah. The NFL will see it for exactly what it is....a business decision. Just means less mileage on the body. He's as good as gone I suspect.

I met McCoy’s dad and uncle in Atlanta. They were such nice folks. They seemed really optimistic on his timeline of return by ETSU. Any new update? I’m sure it’s in a thread below but I’m too lazy to sort through. Really missed him for UGA game.

Why isn’t Sanders playing yet? There’s not anything weird going on behind the scenes?

I think we got a dangerous football team if we can get a little more healthy on D. Weird saying that so early in a season. Loved seeing Aguilar sling it on Saturday. Karma finally on our side with the Nico trade.
They are really nice guys, I met them last year at the Bama game. Sure hopeful he gets back on the field soon!

Some close to the program seem to think that agents are in the ear of McCoy about returning or pretty much prepping for the draft. So who knows if there are even a timeline. The sanders injury I have said is more severe than they wanted to let out. Coach said today that it is up to the medical staff. You know they are playing it safe and I don’t blame them at all. Honestly we might not see either for some time if at all. Gipson also out for the year probably the 3 highest nil players we have. Just our luck right.

Nfl teams also overanalyze everything leading up to the draft. Injury is going to hurt his stock. Coming back strong would help, but coming back rusty would hurt even more.

Either way, I feel like he's done here

My thought - If Sanders is not back by mid year, we likely don’t see him play this year. Maybe he plays a little to protect his redshirt, but not enough to make much of a difference.

McCoy won’t return. Gibson is out for the season.

Redmond will grow and get better.

Our season won’t be impacted much if Sanders doesn’t play. The loss of McCoy and Gibson is HUGE. If Redmond progresses quickly . . . And our younger linebackers improve . . . And we get Moi and Hobbs back . . . We could make the CFP.

We are hosed of late with the injury bug.

Sanders shouldn’t need to protect a redshirt. He’s supposed to be a 3 and done talent

Redshirts?
No, McCoy was projected to be a first round pick a couple of weeks before the season started, and they’re not like us, they’re not expecting the top corner on the draft board to play in the same calendar year he tore his ACL on. He could rest up, run some drills at the combine and pro day to show his explosiveness and agility is still there and he’ll be a first rounder. The only way he redshirts is if he comes back and re-injures himself.

Sanders shouldn’t be here more than 3 years. He was the number 1 overall player in his recruiting class. He supposed to be a top 10 pick after 3 years in college

Moi and Hobbs are the 2 most important missing pieces right now. McCoy would be icing on the cake. Sanders too, but the OL is playing well enough without him. Weve got to get some depth on DL. Hood is a legit SEC CB right now...Redmond needs time to grow but I think he'll get better as the year goes on.
Redmond got scorched all day vs UGA! I don't see him getting a lot better anytime soon! Maybe next year, if ever!
