My understanding is that in DC they are basically providing screen door protection in low crime areas so the police can focus on higher crime areas. They have no business being used outside DC, but I would imagine they would do something similar if they were.
"providing screen door protection in low crime areas ...."

If that's true .... then it's just all for show. A political spectacle.

To an extent, Definitely. Some people are dissuaded because someone in uniform is there which is freeing up the police to handle more pressing matters.

And who the hell made you arbiter of what I concern myself with?

In my previous discussion with hog, I didn't see an unconstitutional angle to it. Will discuss with you, if you want.
Ok, I’m trying to get to ‘why’ he’s doing it, but if you want to get stuck on the ‘how’, we can do that too.

It seems that you guys have kind of covered the Posse Comitatus Act, which appears to clearly apply to this situation. The Army and Air Force are restricted to be used as law enforcement unless expressly directed by Congress. Given that there has been no other reason given for sending in the National Guard, that limits his authority to complete this act for its (loosely) stated purpose.

Not to mention, the 10th amendment exists which likely applies here, as well as laws that require a president to receive the governor’s permission to federalize the national guard.

I thought i explored the "why". It doesn't seem that complicated to me.
Crime deterrence projects strength. Politically, it's appealing to those who live in fear (real or imaginary). It was also suggested it could be a way to peel away voters from a historical democrat voting bloc.

As far as hog and others can tell, the NG in DC aren't serving as police.

Doesn’t bother me its not money spent on some stupid study that’s a waste of money
This is extremely stupid. Most medical advancements that have made us a world leader came from "some stupid study," but yeah instead let's spend that money using the military to pick up discarded water bottles to own the libs

When for freedom of speech? All he said was that CNN was fake news, not outlaw them...

And he's not wrong.
His admin was arresting students for writing op-eds
Also just now signed an executive order mandating a year in prison for burning a flag which is protected speech, and spineless idiots like Matt Walsh immediately rolled over for him

You think troops patrolling the streets of major metro areas is gonna appease the population? Who does that appeal to other than those in his base who subscribe to this urban vs rural fallacy?

And the legality hurdles mentioned?
