We should be looking at all our weaknesses and improving on them. Both our kicker and QB need to be replaced.Which hurt the game more last night, missed field goal costing TN 3-points or Joey fumbling the football into the endzone and giving Illinois 7 free points. We can't make a field goal and we can't stop having the QB turn the ball over. If you get rid of one then get rid of both.
This is team coulda, woulda, shoulda and soft. Fans just can't accept the reality and limitations of this roster and this head coach so they make excuses to convince themselves that we're just a coach/player or two away from running with the Georgia's and Ohio States of college football. Have a badly leaking ship and the wrong guy as captain. It's coming no matter how fans try to convince themselves that "we'll be fine".There are many areas that need improving before next year. Our FG kicker is definitely one of those areas.
Kicking and not taking care of the ball allowing defensive scores probably cost the VOLS 3 or 4 games. The Bama pick 6, OK scoop and score, last night scoop and score, GA missed FG and last night miss all add up to difference making plays. I am not taking away from all the positives this year but eliminate those miscues and we are having an entirely different conversation. That conversation would be defensive struggles.Yes, that's why I said "perhaps".
We need a lot and when you have dynamic players at every position a missed FG don't hurt you but we have been losing (UGA etc.)and even winning close games by skin of our teeth MSU etc... We have no room for error. Our defense does not have but a few SEC players to be honest maybe some the younger guys grow up fast. until we up the roster, we simply are not good enough to win games with multiple 15 yard penalties and any kick inside of 50 a yarder should be good, unless a bad snap or a blocked FG. We are a mediocre SEC team right now we need a major turnover and get away from soft players and get high IQ hard playing footballers. There are many areas that need improving before next year. Our FG kicker is definitely one of those areas.
Max has one job. He can’t do it in pressure situations. Looks like a deer in headlights on the sideline. We can point to plenty of reasons why the team lost this game or that game. Kicking game though absolutely has not been dependable in big moments this year. Not one 3rd down stop. Not one. Can't blame Max for that.
I do think that is a little harsh, but he certainly helped. It is still a team game, and it was the defense that was abysmal overall. He could have provided the winning scores for those games, but he alone didn't lose them. Watching the Illini march down the field all night long it is really hard to use the word 'defense' when describing that unit. I'm thinking Tim Banks wasn't the problem. All that being said, I really hope Josh gets into the portal and finds a new guy that is not so pressure sensitive. Do the Grammaticas have any kids?Max Gilbert was a huge player in helping us lose three football games out of the five we lost.
I see you didn't watch the game. I know you're not so stupid you didn't see number 53 let his man go right by him, untouched, causing the fumble. Thought I would tell you since you didn't see it and blame the wrong guy. By the way, Josh didn't meet #53 on the field as he was coming off, get into his face mask chewing him out and then going over and chewing out the line coach like Spurrier, Smart or Saban did and does did he? No one is held accountable with this staff. We should be looking at all our weaknesses and improving on them. Both our kicker and QB need to be replaced.
He missed a critical kick in the OU game as well. He can’t be trusted in big moments
