Max Gilbert

He’s missed every meaningful kick in his career; his callout is 100% warranted.
Yep. And he was paid well for this crap!

I was at the game and told my family and sons "I will not watch another down next season if they put him in a Tennessee uniform." And I mean it. Also, I will NEVER go to another MCB with the Vols in it. Got free tickets to this one in a suite or I would not have gone to this one.

1) Knowing the crew I work with, I’d fully expect that.

2) that has nothing to do with my job so that’s a pretty terrible analogy. If I consistently effed up the biggest opportunities I was given at my job and cost my employer profit, I would be fired.
To paraphrase OK State Gundy, are you a full grown man? Assuming so you should be held responsible for your mistakes. Gilbert is barely shaving. Give the kid a break. That Chinese guy once said something about not throwing stones if living in a glass house. Sound wisdom.

An important matter at hand is to hire a killer kicker. If the coaches cannot figure that one out, then we need to hire new coaches.

they have to at least look for a different option at kicker. we all know that we still lose that game even if he makes the kick. they go in and score the walk off touchdown instead of running the clock out and kicking the field goal.

I’ve held my tongue on Max this year. He’s had a couple of rough stretches in his career and after the miss earlier this year I thought he’d settle back in, but that miss tonight was the worst. Plant foot position was terrible and it was missed as soon as he hit it. I am thankful for his effort, but he has regressed this year and it’s time to move on.
He doesn’t work seriously enough. If you make mental errors this often, it’s because you haven’t done enough correct repetitions.

Blaming Gilbert is nothing more than cope. If we can convince ourselves our team sucks because of 1 guy we feel better. The entire team sucks.
We cant even fix one thing about this team? I don’t want your advice..

This season was the sum of many different ineptitudes, not just bad kicking. I wouldn’t be surprised, however, if Gilbert comes out and actually IS clutch next year.

I am more concerned with the fact that our defense was consistently unable to perform at even a mid-tier level all season . . . and that our supposedly explosive offense wilted and disappeared for long stretches of games, especially those times when we needed just a little spark.

This season was a true regression almost uniformly across the board from what it could/should have been. And while I try to temper my disappointment based on how things looked when Nico pulled his BS in the Spring, it still just sucks.

Which hurt the game more last night, missed field goal costing TN 3-points or Joey fumbling the football into the endzone and giving Illinois 7 free points. We can't make a field goal and we can't stop having the QB turn the ball over. If you get rid of one then get rid of both.
