So he was reckless vs UGA, Miss St, Alabama and UK? Those are the only games the former staff prepared him to play in. You can argue he was reckless on two passes within that span and they were both Miss St in the red zone. But claiming he was commonly reckless with the ball is just a false statement UNLESS you’re referring to the games he was thrown in without preparation. Which would be an unfair judgement

I just see that as the equivalent of having 22 students and only 21 study guides and calling a kid stupid for failing a test when he was the odd man out.
so when he was successful, the study guide didnt matter. only when he failed did it become a logical excuse. okay, i get it now.....!

The QB position is a wide open competition now
I was reading thru this thread to see if someone had posted these thoughts, which are mine exactly. For the last 2 years Guarantano has come in as the #1 guy which means he takes most of the snaps in practice, and all with the ones. I would speculate that the others got few snaps and therefore few looks in practice and those being with the 2’s, 3’s and 4’s. It will be very interesting to see, with new eyes watching who will emerge. But it was very evident Pruitt and Chaney’s mind was made early and with no spring practice there was no chance for anyone else.

You may be right. Just my opinion but I think you see Bailey transfer out. His style is quite different than what Heupel wants and does run in terms of a mobile QB.

Comprehension running a bit low? It absolutely matters and if you payed attention to what I said, it was the basis of my quote. When HE was given the “study guide” it made a night and day difference vs when he wasn’t. Does the Maurer we seen this past year match the one we seen in 2019 vs UGA, Miss St and Alabama? No. So what was done differently with him in those games vs the games he looked terrible? Could it be that “study guide”?

qbs practice, have playbooks, etc.. stop playing with us. why would they trot someone who doesnt know the plays and hasnt had reps out there?

nah, they fooled YOU with a simple read rpo and you thought he had arrived. then, as ive stated....DCs figured he cant read defenses....and in the toilet with turds he went

Funny you think that way. Care to explain why qb #2 almost NEVER looks good when replacing qb #1 mid game even in the NFL? Why is it that qb #2 almost ALWAYS looks much better the following week when qb #1 goes down with a multi-week injury? Why did Maurer himself look so terrible vs UF in 2019 when replacing JG and follow it up the next week vs the best defense in the country with 259 and two tds? It MIGHT just have something to do with preparation wouldn’t you say? Just shut up man..... you’re making a fool of yourself

CJH doesn't run the QB nearly as much as some people seem to think.

In his system, you need a QB who can make the right reads on the RPOs and make quick release accurate throws. He throws the ball in the middle of the field a LOT more than we have seen at UT in a while. Any QB on the roster could be successful in his system. It just may look a little different. I don't know much about the new guys, but Bailey is a fairly accurate passer and should only get better.

I'll speculate. Gray was getting bags full of McDonald's based on production. Brian blew things up by using a cc supplied by a coach/booster to take a prospect to the Catch. Got drunk and got stupid.

Mauer has the quickest release and strongest arm by far (of the returners). He didn’t look good last year in his sporadic appearances...but he sure did in 2019.

We might be shocked at what he could do in THIS offense. Dude, has a laser.

Bring on the competition!

Maurer got plenty of upgrades when he had Neids credit card. Too bad he would forget them places that would raise all sorts of red flags throughout the department...
