Matt House as DC (KC Chiefs)

I think it's adorable that so many still think we are in any kind of position to make a "homerun hire" of any kind right now. Our best bet is to either find a young diamond in the rough or find an under the radar seasoned coach who's ready to take the next step. The term "homerun hire" simply does not apply to us right now.
I'll take my chance on a young, diamond in the rough type vs some recycled coach with one eye on retirement and one on his bank account. A team is a reflection of the coaching staff. I'll take young, hungry and full of energy and live with the growing pains/mistakes right now. We're looking at 4 years of football purgatory no matter who gets the job.

If he went off to be the DC at that level, yeah, I could see it happening, but he's not. To me that says he is isn't ready to be a DC again, and we shouldn't be the team to give him another shot at being one.
What, you act like he got fired? A lot coaches try the NFL, like Tee Martin

A name that has been discussed by Erik Ainge and Brian Rice (whatever you think of them, they're more connected then most of the "insiders") as a name to be a strong possibility for the staff here. (maybe D.C.)
Don't know anything about him myself but the Googles says he might have left for the NFL because college was too stressful. If thats the case I would hope D.C. wouldn't be in play, maybe L.B.s instead. What have y'all heard of him and his transition from college? And his coaching history or style/fit here.
I don't know a thing about the guy. But sometimes when you think something is too stressful then try something else... you end up missing the old job. It happened to me. I managed people for most of the first 12 years of my career and was burned out. I took a process improvement job that I thought would be paradise. It was OK for the first 3 or so years and then I began to miss the challenge of operations. Honestly, I'm not sure I can do anything else well and enjoy it. I love people and am fascinated by individual differences and team dynamics.

He may have thought the stress of the intimate leadership college coaches was the problem... he may now realize that it wasn't.

I think if it were Steele he would already be in place. However if Steele wasn’t being considered for a position coach he would be gone.

Steele is a good choice as a DC, knows the SEC, and how to recruit in the SEC. If it is not Steele, he must know and be willing to work with whoever it is. I just don't see us attracting someone like that with the current circumstances.

That makes too much sense. We’ll have none of that...

We all want the best person regardless of if they are on the market or not, we are Tennessee and we deserve it. Reality is we are late to the table and we need to take someone to the prom...might not be the queen but hell if she can dance lets go, beggars cant be choosers!

Everyone mentions Steele as the D coordinator, and it may come to fruition. He has the experience and can recruit; however, who knows if he Coach Heupel mesh well together. Idk pretend to know eithers’s personality type but staff cohesion is important.

If he isn’t hired then keep him on as an analyst unless he becomes detrimental to the program during off-season.

House was decent and serviceable when he was DC at Kentucky, but I dont think he'd be the homerun hire we need to compliment a Heupel offense. If he came in at LB coach and MAYBE a co-DC I'd be good with it, but we need a more proven, "throw the bank at them" type of DC.

How about Buddy Ryan?

That'd be some heavenly supernatural type coaching and ill definitely take that.......we need all the help we can get.

I know he is dead, so that is a disadvantage. But then again, everyone is saying the same about the program right now. So it might work. It works for Barbara Stanwyck! Nick, Heath, Jarrod, Quick! There's a fire in the barn.

We will soon have a new DC. One thing you can count on. He won't be good enough for the torch and pitchfork wing of VN.
You are so right about these folks that think they know best about who and who not should be hired. If the Coach is half as smart as these folks think they are, he will certainly have a home run hire
