Martin or Moseley

This staff have continually shown they have poor judgment when it comes to who should start. In 2014 it was their reluctance to play Dobbs. Then last year it was starting Jumper over Kirkland to start the year.

I have zero faith in them putting the best players on the field to start the season.

I could care less who practices better. All I know is when it came to playing in games Moseley was terrible while Martin was pretty good last year.

Worley was a better passer than Dobbs. Our O-line made him look really bad. Also, the read option wasn't in favor of him. But in terms of passing, he was far ahead of Dobbs.

Lol stop. If he doesn't listen to or respect the coaches then you bench his ass. You talk as if this dude is Revis or Sanders.

That's because D4H does think Martin's that good. Any player he likes has a HOF future.

He doesn't understand that there are greater dynamics to a team than "play the best talent regardless." Probably because the only football he's ever played is Madden. The coaches have this team bought in. Starting a guys who isn't getting his work done on the practice field or off the field just because he has a lot of natural talent sends a bad message.

Martin will definitely play either way. But he shouldn't be the starter unless he truly earns it every day.

I think Martin getting thrown out of the scrimmage for fighting is holding him back. Needs to be smarter

I can't see that helping one's case. That's for sure. Shoop was asked just this at the last practice interview. He was quiet candid @ it. Maybe too candid for scouting sake, but I digress. Basically said Moseley has worked very hard to improve and is being very consistent to be in the right position at all times. He has the edge right now. Said he liked Martin also, for the obvious reasons, but that he was a little behind on the fundamentals needed. Said he depends a little too much on his length / athleticism to make plays.

No quotes. 100% paraphrase.

Maybe because he didnt play nearly as much?

All I know is this... There is NO REASON for anyone to doubt Shoop at this point.

Maybe because the end of our schedule was much easier, sans Bama, than the early portion.

Problem with Mosely is that he is shorter than Martin, but he is very fast. If Martin gets his technique down and learns to read plays/receivers, he could be a force to reckon with.

Not saying Mosely has not improved, but I wonder if part of the reason they are hyping him is to motivate/push Martin?

EDIT: I did not read entire post at first then noticed you said same thing.

Lol

Its made me wonder if it's just to get JM's attitude right or to push him to be more focused and driven to improve.

Also wondered if Moseley has just put it all together under Shoop and is playing better? He is very fast and to my untrained eye most of the time when he was there to make the play, he usually did. Especially toward the end of the year. Usually he was just bad out of position and I would think that would be a part of his game that he could be coached up on and wether he is the starter or a back-up he has enough skills to be a very good cover corner IMO

It's just that Martin is capable of more. Hope he reaches his ceiling.

And don't forget he did get into a war of words with Butch Jones last year. Allegedly almost to the point of transfer.

I fear the coaches may be letting Martin's attitude affect their evaluation of his game. IMO he's too good to keep off the field just because he doesn't always listen to or respect the coaching staff.

I hope they don't let off field behavior affect talent evaluation on the field. But I fear it might.

I feel if he is disrespecting the coaches and other teammates, he shouldn't see the field as much, despite maybe being more talented. If you let a player do that and still play him, just creates bad vibes and chemistry.
Another thing is with the depth that's building, they don't need to play him if he's acting out. He probably is a little more talented, but the gap is nowhere near what it's been recent years.
I love the discipline Jones has shown and the respect he ask if his players.

So how comfortable are y'all gonna be at the bama game when Moseley is covering Gehrig Deiter? The last time didn't go so well for the home team

Unfortunately for some people on this board, Moseley is going to win that position. Sorry about that.

Cept we beat em comfortably. :). And Matt Johnson was a lil more seasoned than the Cooper Bateman/Blake Barnett/Jalen Hurts of the world.

I don't like choosing between 2 good players but regardless of who the starter is, most likely they will get about the same amount of playing time, both are to good to just keep off the field.

Is this a serious comment?

It's almost like he's seeing how much ridiculous he can splat on here and still get posters trying to "see his point". :fool:

Lol you don't have a clue. How do you explain Jumper getting the playing time early last year when clearly Kirkland was better? How do you explain the love he's getting this year from a NEW coach? Politics and attitude are a part of this.

So I guess what I'm saying is...

we've come a long way in recruiting to be arguing about which one should start-- the fact that we have two corners that will get plenty of playing time is a good thing.

Sooo? In this new delusion, the highly sought DC without a buyout option in his contract, is beholden to big bucks Daddy Jumper? Not sure why you quoted me...D4H saying that coaches should disregard a player blatantly disrespecting them doesn't equate to Jumper playing ahead of Kirkland. Kirkland had a biceps injury that slowed him last offseason...his attitude has always been championed. HUGE reach, star boy...HUGE!

Your sense of reason is very out of place in this Twilight Zone of a thread 🤔.
