SIAP...been thinking about all the rumors out there. I've heard the idea of all of this being pre-orchestrated, but putting everything together based on rumors and innuendo, what do you think about this happening?

HC- Marrone
DC- Steele
OC- Chaney

Is there any history with the 3 of them?

Correct and Bortles SUCKS!!!
Yep, been a backup/practice squad player the past couple of years. One of the hundreds of head scratching draft picks of QBs. Most of these teams draft a QB with their first pick just because that’s their biggest need, even though the guy they end up drafting should be a 2nd-3rd round pick. If I were drafting that high and I wasn’t sold on the QBs available I would trade back and accumulate draft picks so I could address multiple needs. I really don’t understand these organizations sometimes.

yeah I don't how this is going to go... similar questions would happen if we roll out Chadwell. Looked awesome at Coastal but.... is he proven? Regardless of the HC chosen... he needs to be a leader, a CEO, an adult, good at pressers, and have a good staff behind him
Well, there doesn't seem to be a lot of those available at least not in the price range our administration is willing to pay.

I really believe fuller will push to become head coach. He will try to make a deal and save the Vols money. He is setting up a decent staff to make him look like a hero for a couple years. He is trying to put do his friend Mack Brown

UT has done worse and could do much worse than Marrone. His best showing as HC was in 2017 when he lost to the Patriots in the AFC championship game by 4 pts. Let’s be honest it is not easy to win in Jacksonville. IIRC the franchise has made the playoffs once in the last 13 years. Not sure how to judge his time at Syracuse. Marrone would not be my first choice however he would be a solid option if multiple coaches told us no.

He went 8-5 in year two at Syracuse then in year 3 collapsed, going 5-7 and 1-6 in conference play despite only playing 1 ranked team all season. The best win of his entire college career was over Louisville who finished ranked 13th that year. Sound familiar? 2017 going to the AFCC is his only really notable year in his 11 year career as a head coach at 3 different stops.

Someone out there PLEASE explain the fascination with Marrone! I do not understand it in the least. The dude has sucked in the NFL and was 25-25 at Syracuse, where is the love coming from?! This guy would be a complete disaster.

He had the Jaguars good and then coughlin ruined that. Have u seen Syracuse before and after him? 25-25is great. I’d take him in a heart beat

Two winning seasons and two losing seasons. It’s not like he took them into a perennial powerhouse. I don’t see the love.

So you think 25-25 at Syracuse and then an NFL team hiring him spells disaster. He doesn’t make your list so he’s a disaster?
GTFO

Volnation was made for this coaching change stuff. It’s giving me a weird flashback from all the other crazy searches and changes. Even weirder, the craziness feels like home as a Tennessee fan.

Why? Because I think a guy who couldn’t break .500 at Syracuse, got destroyed in the NFL, hasn’t coached college in almost 10 years, and has no experience in the SEC doesn’t spell success at UT? Sorry I don’t share your passion for a proven loser.

I don’t think he would be a great coach here but he did take Jacksonville to the verge of being in the Super Bowl a few years ago with Blake Bortles as his QB. That’s pretty impressive to me.

Plus he might have some old orange clothes in his closet, so this saves us some bucks on the hire.
At least there's no crimson in the closet

I dunno about their history and rumors in Knoxville? No way! Just having some fun...

Regardless, there is typically some way-off to slight truth to rumors. IF all of these names are part of the next recipe, then I am going with the Vols choosing to make the following staff a highly paid group of assistant coaches along with a moderately paid underproven HC.

When you look at what we would have to pay to start over, it says a great deal about the character of our AD to say, NO... we are going to use that money to help this kid do it by surrounding him with proven veterans in every position. Not some up and comers who are probably in it for the money and end up creating violations because they are not committed to doing it the right way.

If that is true too, here it is:

Pruitt HC
Marrone OL
Steele Co-DC / LBs
Chaney - OC
Ansley - Co-DC DBs

What I also hope to see is another Fitz hire for S&C, Weinke replaced... I think Tee will stay at WR, Graham will stay at RBs and Niedermire will go back to TEs.

This would simply be the best staff we have had since I can remember less the HC who would have the best chance at proving himself at that position. Fulmer is sticking behind Pruitt and frankly the loyalty to him even through failure to me is a beautiful thing.

I was for Pruitt being let go to get Freeze or keeping him to get out of debt and see what he could do... but I didn’t think we would go after Chaney type hires at every position which is frankly what we will have if that is the case.

I honestly have thought the most underestimated and detrimental moves last year were Rocker being fired and the promo of Artis. I have great concerns we are about to make that same mistake again.

Typically, you live or die by your staff. Saban always hires the best people. He always has rockstar S&C coaches. His teams push people all over the place. The teams that did not played Butch & Pruitt’s teams coached by their original S&C coaches. Bama blew our kids away the next year when both coaches for different reasons replaced these men with others that were have-not-yet been or has been S&C coaches.

Best indicator of a coach is his/her record:

Marrone was 25 and 25 at Syracuse while in the Big East - he was however only 11 and 17 in conference (losing conference record);

Marrone was 1 and 2 vs Butch Jones of all people;

Marrone was 38 and 60 in the NFL with with only 2 winning seasons out of 6 total seasons. He went 1 and 15 this past season!

...

* an analogy * If you have a stock portfolio being managed by a professional, would you hire this guy as your stock advisor/portfolio manager? I didn't think so.
