Marquez North to enter draft?

From Swains Twitter...

@swainevent: I'm hearing there's a strong chance Marquez North will forgo his Senior season and enter the NFL draft.

Makes sense IMO. No need in getting injured and sitting out another year in school. Go get that money.

Would like for him to return for his senior season and stay healthy and do well.
Should he leave, we will get production from other receivers to make up for the loss.
He won't be able to go off of his college stats because he was injured too often. He will have to do well at Pro Day on campus in order to get a serious look from NFL teams.
His injury history and lack of stats will hurt him. His work out on Pro Day and his body size will help him get a free agent slot on some team.
Will not get drafted at all. Will have to make it the hard way as a free agent.

It's best for him to leave. He will be great with the eye test so someone will get him. College hasn't treated him good.

Why in the world would anybody think Marquez North could make an NFL roster and play a lot? He can't stay healthy, can't get separation, can't put up any production in college, against much lesser talent? This is an awful idea.

Several times in the past 30 years, I have seen college athletes do marginal in college but explode on the scene in the NFL or NBA.
He has the size and the hands. He just needs to stay healthy and get good coaching in the NFL.
I remember that Terrell Davis was constantly hurt at UGA but he managed to stay relatively healthy at Denver and showed out.
I have no doudt that he will NOT get drafted but he will make a free agent roster and he will play alot his rookie year.

His decision to make but IMO he's taking more of a risk on his NFL career by leaving than staying. He hasn't proven enough to be drafted yet. If he leaves and misses, free agent WR's are a dime a dozen. Very difficult to find ways to stand out.

If he does imo it is an indictment on the coaching and development he has received. If he thought he would be a part of a dynamic passing game and get better in college next season it would be a no brainer to come back to school.

So its the coaching that has caused him to be hurt all the time????

WRONG!

The same Tyler Bray who's already made $1.2 mil, and is on schedule to make $1.8 mil over the next 2 years?

None of Bray's money in the next two yrs is guaranteed.
And he would have signed for at least a mil signing bonus if he'd been drafted.

I think he should go. Get his college degree and sign a free agent contract. He has the talent if healthy. It's just not worth sitting out his senior year because of injury again. Worst case scenario he gets cut and finds a job with his degree from the University of Tennessee. Good luck to Marquez.

My incentive to pull for this kid if he stays will be off the charts after some of the glib, dumbass rhetoric in this and other threads. He's an excellent receiver who showed glimpses of greatness in year 1 and has been hurt since.

This is why I stated he needs to go. Yes, he's most likely going to go undrafted, but he can get into a situation where the QB can get the ball to him downfield.

Dobbs has big issues with accurate downfield passing, and Debord is calling the offense to compensate for that, and he loves the ground game. Both scenarios are not lending to opportunities for our WRs. So, I'm not sure how North staying one more season could improve his stock at all.

He hasn't been healthy in two seasons. His lack of production has nothing to do with coaching or offensive strategy. He just hasn't been playing. Maybe that's why Josh Malone doesn't have great #s but it has nothing to do with North.

He could improve his stock by playing a full season healthy even if his numbers aren't great. I would certainly not draft a receiver who has barely played in 2 years because he had 400 yards receiving as a freshman. If he comes back next year, stays healthy, has 500 yards receiving and has a good combine then I'd draft him in a heartbeat. He has a lot to gain by staying. I'd be shocked if he gets drafted if he leaves this year.

Someone else posted that maybe it wasn't North's decision!
Maybe bUTch encouraged him to test the waters in the NFL.
Maybe bUTch has a chance to sign several more players this recruiting cycle but doesn't have room, so he is cleaning house.
Just a thought.
Kiffin ran B.J. Coleman off among other players.
What would you do as a head coach if you had North on the team but you could sign a 5* player at a position of need? A corner? A D.T.?
What if Shoop has a guy in mind but they need room in order to sign this 5* D.T.? As a coach, what do you do?

I mean, he won't get drafted.

He could very well have an NFL future, but the only reason he would do this is hurt feelings.

Get that degree. Play another year. See what happens.

Pretty sure everyone will pull for this "kid" regardless of what decision he makes.

Lol...ok, since you said so. Please refute any of it if you can.

I'll take a crack at it.

He has been hurt more than not over the last couple of years. Just read in another thread that he was actually thinking of giving up football earlier in the year (I would guess that would be due to injuries, not coaching). If in fact he is worried about health issues (back, knee), then it really does not make sense for him to come back and possibly ruin any chances of making it at the next level. Sounds to me like he is on a very limited time table to make any kind of money and needs to take advantage of it now. Even if he doesn't get drafted and has to go the FA route, he still has a chance to make some money and be able to say he played in the NFL. To me none of that sounds like coaching problems, but more take advantage of what time I have left before I can't play anymore.

Is this conjecture? Maybe. But not any more than saying it's an indictment on coaching. Could just as easily say that maybe a lot of our coaching decisions in game were made because we didn't have a WR step up to make passing plays a more plausible game day choice.

JMO and a little different perspective of what could be happening here.

Either way, good luck to Mr North.

North was my favorite player when he was a freshman and I was really pulling for him the past couple of years. The kid is an absolute freak of nature and has been unlucky when it comes to injuries. I think he should heal up over the spring and summer and return for his senior season and put together some type of NFL campaign. Even if he had a full healthy year and 400 yards with 3+ TD's that would be better than going after this year.

I wish him well if he decides to go. Personally, I think he would be better served to stay and work like crazy with Dobbs or Dormady on timing and routes. i think next year, our offense is going to put up BIG numbers and he could be a part of that. I'm thinking how much it benefited Robert Meachum to stay his senior year.

Hard for someone to develop when they are never healthy.
