Marcus Spears - I want to see Keller Chryst...

The inside guy's job is to check inside first. He was covered by a LB he had to account for. Just count "hats". # 4 had to account for the LB in front of him 3 yds off the LOS before looking outside. The RB had to take the inside rusher of the two. JG has to account for the guy on the outside. He didn't. JG was hit by a guy who ran all the way around the outside of the protection. He has to recognize what's coming and either change the play or hit the hot receiver. He held the ball longer than he had.

PS- You were the one who chose to be a smart aleck... not me.

I think a lot of it comes down to holding the ball too long and/or not recognizing blitzes well enough. He was really bad about taking sacks over getting rid of the ball last year. But hey, he's tough.

I want him to succeed but I don't want us to be out of the football game trying to prove he can. Florida's first 16 point was the offense's fault and it changed the rest of the game.

My main issue with JG is...he has a giraffe neck that snaps back from even the smallest hits. Seems like every time someone makes contact with him his helmet goes flying. Against these elite teams he could possibly be decapitated. Good arm though...

Spears is an idiot, as is just about every SEC network analyst. No QB worth anything is doing anything in this offense with the garbage OL we have. The only way this gets fixed is recruiting.

I agree with Spears. I wanna see KC get a string of starts and see what happens. What we may lose in arm strength could possibly be made up with intangibles.

On the first INT, JG appears to have recognized the blitz off the back side. He pulled the TE in to block. Then... he STILL didn't get the ball out quickly after recognizing his back side was over loaded. He didn't drift out to the open side of the field to give himself a little more time. Those are the kinds of subtle things that separate a QB from a thrower. He's better than he was last year... but still not good.
Wasn't overloaded. Just piss poor blocking by the TE. Usually if tou go max protect its a deep ball. Therefore, it takes longer to set up.

It was overloaded but there were enough to block it and it was whiffed. But JG has to feel the pressure and anticipate pressure and move off the spot. He stands like a statue waiting for the wr to open up instead of stepping up, dumping it off, running, or throwing it away.

Before being that stupid... go back and watch the play. There were too many to block on that side. One of the QB's jobs is to count heads and account for the unblocked rusher. He didn't.
Jordan and woods-Anderson took the same guy. We had enough blockers but Jordan didn’t pick up the outside guy

That was only one play of many. FL was stacking the box the entire first half and it appeared to me JG never figured out where the rush was coming from.

I mean at this point what’s it hurt to give KC a shot. JG is better than last year but still not that good. Idk if I’ve ever seen worse pocket awareness. Starting to look like the only way to fix our QB situation is through recruiting

I hear ya Marcus but I'd like to see an offensive coordinator call more than 21 pass attempts a game first.

186 rush attempts to 85 pass attempts on the season through 4 games.
I agree here. The ol is put at a disadvantage when you are predictable. 3rd and long is a nightmare. I think they have a philosophy of 4, 3, and managable 3rd down and our short passing game isnt there yet. Maybe bec JG still lacks touch or our TE’s are inexperienced or we have crap for an OC. Lol

Jarrett Gaurantano (sp?) looked shaky to him against Florida. He'd like to see Tennessee give Keller Chryst a chance to see if he can make some plays downfield.

Personally, I don't know if Chryst could lead the offense better as a starter or not but the QB play displayed last week is not winning football. For all the talk about the QB can't commit turnovers for this team to have a JG lays a huge egg in a game we needed to win. I know, I know the offensive line is not great but it is what it is. This is not 7 on 7 shell drills where the pocket stays clean.

I want our QB to be more than tough, I want him to know how to win.

I still have yet to understand why we brought in a graduate transfer only to let him hand the ball off majority of the time.

Maybe he’s not, at some point you gotta wonder why he’s taking so many of these big hits.

Yeah that TD to INT ratio really proves it............................................................................

Oh my bad I forgot about that elite completion % which is really what wins games right?..right?

So you would start Chryst over JG? Please detail for us the statistical justification for this

Continuously putting the offense in 3rd and long puts any QB they put in there at severe disadvantage too.

I think both QBs are limited in terms of ability and maybe that's why they are so conservative but I dont think Helton is doing JG any favors with his play calling. Teams are just teeing off on him in these obvious passing downs.
