Manning linked to HGH by Documentary (key witness has recanted)

Yeah, you probably would have liked German radio in WWII. I don't care where they were educated. That has no bearing on their attitude about the US. I'm sure the hacks at MSNBC have the same educations. The fact that you believe the statements of a 2013 unpaid intern about something that happened in 2011 that he had to break into to get says volumes.

Already going for the ad hominen, aka you're outgunned on this one. So, let me deconstruct how wrong these comments are.

"That has no bearing on their attitude about the US"

- The documentary in question was produced by al-Jazeera's America's arm, which is largely produced by American producers and staff. al-Jazeera America is quite different from al-Jazeera Arabic's service. See the case of Peter Greste and the subsequent controversy over his imprisonment in Egypt if you need to understand the difference between the two services.

Furthermore, if you want to resort to jingoism, you should probably do some research. Qatar's foreign policy aims are not exactly Islamist considering the Qatari royal family long has a reputation within the Intel community as that of hedonists who indulge on Western culture and have actively worked to suppress Islamist movements within its borders.

"The fact that anyone that breathes can make the above statements is astounding."

- Ok, well, you want to insult other posters, so I'll let the following respected institutions do the talking, who've awarded al-Jazeera America's coverage over the last two years:

The Peabody Awards, the Knoxville-based Scripps-Howards Award for Public Journalism, the Emmys... Should I continue?

"The fact that you believe the statements of a 2013 unpaid intern about something that happened in 2011 that he had to break into to get says volumes"

- When did I ever say that I believe the statements made? Find them, please, because, otherwise, you're speaking ignorance. I've not made an opinion on the documentary, because I've not seen it yet. I just generally get annoyed at people who slam something while having little actual knowledge of it other than that of conjecture.

Good for you. The documentary is falling apart and you are still lauding the accomplishments of the network. So you are saying if ISIS had an American arm, it would be OK?

"So you are saying if ISIS had an American arm, it would be ok?"

- When did I say that? ISIS is a terrorist group which slaughters individuals who do not prescribe to a Salafist ideology. Qatar is a foreign government who routinely drills with the U.S. Military and whose intelligence services have actively worked to mitigate Salafist ideology within its borders. Hardly the same thing.

It would be nice if the title of this thread included either "allegedly" or "debunked"

Yeah, also, watch the ESP n segment -- for the entire 3 1/2 minutes while they are essentially confirming in dialogue that the story is false, they are showing in BIG print at bottom of screen (not "alleged" but) that "PM received HG. in 2011."

Just drawing an analogy between an enemy and a company. You are falling into the very tall that the Arab network has laid. That you can't see it is astounding.

Sure am glad this didn't get political.

It became "political" not long after it broke last night with the uninformed acting like/stating that Al Jazeera is a credible news source containing any semblance of journalistic integrity whatsoever...
I happen to know for a fact, that this is not the case, although it has been spoon fed to the ill informed for years.

Well, in this case anyway, the people who were initially suspicious of this story due to it's source appear to have been vindicated.

I'm spitting in the wind by saying this, but they're vindicated, but probably not for the reason they think.

Generally speaking, it is a pretty credible news source. That doesn't mean it's perfect and it certainly doesn't exempt them from being sensationalist like all of our other news sources nor does it mean they won't be wrong occasionally.

I don't know. From where I sit: the story was posted, the source of the story was claimed to be untrustworthy, the people who claimed this were roundly criticized and disagreed with, and then the story (evidently) turned-out to be untrue.

It would be hard to argue that this is anything other a hit to Al Jazeerah's credibility as a news source.

There's no doubt about any of that. I'm just saying that it looks like an error in journalism like what we've seen recently with Dan Rather and Brian Williams; not an overall sinister Middle Eastern strategy.

Allenbwest.com? Really? That is where you get your news? That poll, while not relevant to this story, is an unscientific internet poll of Al Jazeera's Arab audience. ISIS could have very easily run a script that drove up their numbers for propaganda purposes. Its not remotely relevant to this story.

If they had rigorous journalistic standards then maybe they would have made sure the guy actually worked there when he said he gave the HGH.

I don't know if Al Jazeera is biased or not..I do know that the channel they bought to have an American footprint was very biased (Al Gore's CurrentTV) does anyone know if they kept the same reporter's from them? All I remember is Olberman and Cenk Uygur and they are extremely to the left of most Americans

The bottom line is that this Buzzfed/Facebooked/Twittered/MTV'd/Bloggosphered Generation of know-nothings have no idea of what true, Journalistic Integrity really is...but they make themselves feel good acting so "inclusive".

Grow up and learn something...not just in "sound-bites" and in making yourself feel so good about your self-described "tolerance".

Wow! So much there to work with. But I think I'm just going to leave it alone.

I will say that in reading many of the posts, the impression I got was that some were saying AJ is not credible and some were saying it is. One side arguing that the other side ended-up being right, but for the wrong reason, seems a little bit like sour grapes.
