If he is as good as all the hyped up reports lead us to believe then there will be another benefit; he will make the rest of the OL elevate their game. That's how a program is built, you need a few players who are transitional, they will create all kinds of positive benefits. Our offensive line was already expected to be the strength of the team.

I can't wait to see this. :)

Anthony Munoz was good until the knee injury, so unless you are saying you hope he doesn't have a severe injury like him, I am not sure what you are saying.

Yeah, I meant I hope he doesn't turn out like him. Coaches playing him eventhough there are better lineman? Or have costly penalties at inopportune time? Or allow D linemen and D ends to blow by him and blow up plays and sacks. Yeah, I hope he is better.

Maybe like Chad Clifton and other greats we have had.

Both of you actually mean MICHAEL Munoz.

Lol, I can not believe I did not catch that, being that Anthony Munoz was my favorite OL for the Bengals. I still can not believe they choked like that in super bowl 23, but Montana and Rice were hard to stop for so long I guess.

Did you know that Tim's mantra was "stay positive"?

I watched the 30 for 30 documentary about Tim, last month. Pretty good, I would recommend it to any NASCAR fan.

I haven't given up on Drew, yet, and neither have the coaches.

Trey looks and acts like the real deal. Guarantee, we won't have to wait long to see him play, a lot.

Richmond is the typical 5 star flop.

Trey Smith is the 5 star hit.

It happens folks.

Richmond was a 4 star and is not even close to being a flop. By the end of the year and the bowl game he was one of the better lineman we had. He will only be a Soph this year so enough of that type of crap.

Why are people calling Richmond a "flop"?

Just goes to show how insane this board can be. Richmond hasn't been a superstar yet, but calling him a "flop" is a pretty huge exaggeration. He still has 3 years of eligibility and could be a starter this season.

Dontavius Blair was a flop. Richmond is probably, worst case scenario, a good backup, and best case-scenario, a great O-lineman by the time he's a RS Senior.

So he doesn't look like a freshmen. He doesn't act like a freshmen. But you are Hell bent on treating him like one?

Setting too high of expectations?

This is our coach?

Remember Richmond the next great Left Tackle and future first round draft choice now third year might not even start on a very average OL in the SEC so let him mash a few pimples before we put him in the NFL hall of fame.

I agree with you Terry.

Seriously, I think I get your response ... put him in there and let him eat up the competition !

?? -- “We have to be careful — and we’ve talked about it as a staff — that he’s still gonna be a true freshman,” Jones said. “We have to make sure that we don’t place so much responsibility on him or so many high expectations on him right now. We have to just let him continue to go through that process and grow and develop as he continues to do that, and not place those high expectations on him.

“If we do that, he’ll be fine.”

'Now now, let's just all slow down, and be careful'

Hmm. Did Saban take the "We have to be careful" approach with Jalen Hurts in 2016? Seems to me that he took the "We have to UTILIZE" / in order to Contend for Championships approach.

Who, really, has been "contending" for championships the last 4 years -- TN, or AL?

Come on STAFF, help us out -- utilize the talent, now ! Don't be careful -- this is YEAR 5 !!

A prime example of bringing a player along too fast is Richmond last year at LT. He came along during the season and improved, but was utilized too soon because of need. We are in abetter place this season and depth is also better. He's gonna play but it will be as the staff sees fit.

There really are just as many posters on VN who try to temper expectations as elevate them.... I don't remember anyone calling Richmond a "future first round draft choice" although a few could have - that was not the consensus. We were excited to get him largely because it was such a long and involved recruitment. He was verbally committed to Ole Miss for 5 months. That was a great job by Butch of staying after a recruit he coveted... And not everyone will agree with your assessment of our offensive line as 'very average' either but we'll see.

As one of those who tries to temper expectations, I imagine Saban gets five or six like Trey Smith every year. That's why they are 5 * and high 4 *. Must be nice!!
