if Malzahn was our OC do we still lose to Auburn?

UT gave up 105 of Auburn's 459 total yards in the first quarter....were the Vols tired coming out of the locker room?

Monte's not going to bat 1.000 -- but Ohio had a good plan, and UCLA had a kid making his first road start and there were no picks in that game, either.

I think it's probably tough for Monte to go from being able to work unlimited hours with NFL players to prepare for a game to a 20-hour week.

Give Auburn credit for its plan and execution.

Lane Kiffin said it himself: UT got beat in all three phases of the game

Good points.

Yep. Looking for a response to that garbage...

Griffith dismisses legitimate challenges to his elementary logic with: "I don't like responding to personal attacks. Looks like when you write a horse crap blog because you can't get a real article in the paper and it has 200 comments, 190 of which are very negative reactions, Griffith would question himself. But, somehow he enjoys writing a blog because it lets him pretend like he is a beat writer for the football team when in reality the KNS seems to keep him as far away from football as it can.

This BLOG just shows Griff's impotence as a writer and as an evaluator of logic in general. If we paid Monte Kiffin & Co. $5 Griff would be complaining that we did not extend our resources to bring in the best defensive staff in the nation this year. The reason you have to write blogs Griff is because no one with more than 3 brain cells would resort to paying you or wasting space in their newspaper for the illogical mass of words you assemble every week. Your ignorance to valid points in this thread does not automatically make you right. Why not just admit that you are in love with John Chavis and you don't agree with our decision to bring in a future NFL Hall of Famer as our defensive coordinator. What scheme should we have implemented Griff? The "lets magically make all of our injured defenders better and then give them the stamina to last being on the field for 19:31 of the first half" scheme? You don't scheme around your offense sucking, having injuries, and having no depth. The fact we held them to 26 points with the ineptitude of our offense is amazing. Get over your love fest with Chavis and realize there is a reason NO ONE takes your "opinions" seriously.

Q.F.T.

*thumbs up*

Terrible article that reads like it was written by someone that started following not just Tennessee football, but the game of football, about a month ago.

No....they were NOT good points! He snickers at EB getting knocked on his but (which didn't happen....the RB pulled up and caused what would've been a big collision to send EB flying in the air, barely glancing the RB....Goober Griff conveniently forgot the other big hits/plays EB delivered, and chooses to make fun of our best player...a top 5 NFL draft pick).

He also "conveniently" forgets that we stuck to a running game and swallowed up a lot of clock in the 1st half against UF. Had THAT not occured...we ALL know the game would've gotten out of hand very quickly. You can't accurately gauge the worth of a given defense when the offense is not even remotely doing their part. You knew the offense was hanging them out there to dry, yet you decide to use the opportunity to distort the facts and take a low blow shot to CMK's groin....complaining that he didn't earn his money. You honestly don't know your @$$ from a hole in the ground, Goober Griff. I stopped reading your stuff long ago because of this kind of trash. Don't know why I fell for it this time around. Nevertheless, this time, though, you've gone way too far! You're as incompetent a writer as Crompton is a QB.

Stuff this up your rear bumper, Goober Griff...NO DEFENSE IN THE COUNTRY...not even an NFL team can hold up when their offense goes 3 and out, 3 and out, 3 and out...the entire half and then into the 3rd qtr.

Just like a race car....they only have so much gas before they're running on empty. To take such a low and cheap shot at Monte should have the entire Vol Nation riding your @$$ til GVX kicks you off their team. Go write for Bama, where this kind of garbage is gospel.

The man love for 3rd and Chavis is sickening. He was great, except on 3rd down. Yeah even Monte gets bested sometimes. I don't really know of any other way he could have defended that stuff though. Maybe send the house a few times. You beat them the same way you beat any other team with a good offense keep them off the field. We failed to do that and the defense got tired. That's what i saw, i missed the part where Malzahn mastered Monte though. They hit some big plays after they wore us down. They also held the ball for 10 more minutes than we did. Might have a little something to do with the offense flopping around like a fish for 3 quarters of the game and the multiple 3 and outs in the first half.

It's a team game and one part has held the other one up for two years now. It hasn't mattered who the coach is, the results have been the same. Same quarterback, same receivers, same results, go figure.

I've read a lot of posts/threads on this and there seems to be two main schools of thought:

1. Auburn had better players/more talent (mainly QB)
2. Auburn has a better scheme/coordinator

I'm just curious how many people think if Malzahn was our OC do we still lose to Auburn?

I made this anonymous btw.

it really was tough to lose chief... we were lucky to have him as long as we did.. I'm sure you'll be pleased with him DV..

Better QB and receivers who catch the ball (even if it's not a great ball/thrown a bit behind them).

The better question is: Let Auburn take Crompton and us take Chris Todd. Who wins?

i'm just glad he's going to take his same aggressive mentality to lswho........ he showed a few glimpses against joja.......

Hey, its cool for the Auburn OC to spout off, he had a very good game plan and it worked well.....but I don't see a link there to mastering Monte's system.

We all know that the chips are stacked against the Vols this year and it will be a long season. Sadly, a few more SEC teams will be feasting on the Vols this year.

You better hold your words til you have to play that offense...just wait...it's coming. What's more is despite our horrific offense (will be as long as CLK keeps Crompton in), the defense still shut down that offense much of the night....an offense with an avg 45 pts/game.

If Special Teams does their job, we come away with the win...even with Crompton tied behind our back.

There's a strong implication there that our offense will be good with Nick Stephens.

:eek:lol:We'll see how much Mustache praise is given when Tebow and UF torch Chavis for the third year in a row. (Fourth if you count Chavis' unbelievable inability to stop Tebow as a Freshman on 3rd/4th and short...)
LSU better watch out for the "jump pass":eek:lol:
No way LSU beats UF with Chavis as DC.

I think Griff is an utterly lame sportswriter, but our defense is nothing to write home about. It wasn't last year, and isn't this year.

I have a feeling Gus Malzhan would roll his eyes if he read this headline.
