Malik Foreman...

Ohhhh Nooooo. Please tell me this isn't the start of Justin Hunter 2.0. It begins w "seems", then its called " fact ", then herds of mindless sheep jump onboard and it becomes " truth ". Please, just stop.

THINK! If you want to get drafted you don't miss open field tackles and get beat in pass coverage. Listen to what you said.

Okay--evaluate what you just posted...missed open tackles and getting beaten time and time again in pass coverage....Sutton just "...ain't exactly who we thought that he was..."

:salute:

They haven't played great but just about any QB that has all day to throw the ball will eventually find somebody open.

I'm still a fan of our secondary. Obviously they get beat, sometimes at the worst possible time, but they are still good. Nickel is probably our weakest link at the moment. Moseley plays well like 9 out of 10 plays, but that one play is always a deep pass for 30+ yards. He has good hips, but he just isn't physical enough to jam a receiver at the line. The coaches are set on keeping Cam on the outside, so why not move Moseley to the inside with Martin and Cam on the outside? That way he won't have to defend the deep pass as much, plus maybe he gets smaller receivers in the slot. Also, what happened to Micah Abernathy? He played a lot in the BG game on defense, but not much since then.

Being completely... and totally selfish... does this increase the chance that his draft grade won't be high enough for him to leave early?

Very good question and one that probably won't be answered until seasons end

He's been burned multiple times this year. But our secondary has been suspect to put it nicely. Randolph has been down. IMO even Sutton is down this year.

I thought Moseley was suppose to be a burner but he gets beat deep consistently. Maybe good top end speed but his acceleration is suspect. When Moseley turns his hips out of the back peddle the receiver creates separation every time.

Watching the replay of the game. No one on our team appears as in over their head as Malik Foreman. Stating the obvious based on his play this year, I know. You could put a highlight tape together of just him getting burned deep, missing tackles, getting juked/stiff armed, etc. Kid is absolutely not an SEC player. Cannot wait until Gaulden is healthy again and we can recruit some more secondary talent. It's sickening seeing Foreman looking like a 15 year old in this UGA game

E. Moseley is also not very good at all (again, it's been obvious all year). He was burned a few times also, and isn't physical at all.

Could Foreman and Moseley do a few things different this year? Sure they could. There are some mistakes they has made this season that leaves us all frustrated.

However, they aren't the only ones. And they are giving it all they got, doing it better than I ever could. And I dare say better than you as well.

Winning cures many ills. I just hope the entire defense, for whatever their failings are, make enough big plays to outweigh their mistakes. Like Al Davis said, "Just win, baby."

The main reason they are getting burned is due to the fact that we need more pressure on the QB. With Maggitt out, Barnett is not as effective. That is why Lambert stayed in all day without Ramsey being brought in like he has in most every game Georgia has played all season.

Thank God we have a bye week before going to Bama. It gives them time to correct some small fundamental errors they keep making that make the difference from them being considered goats or busts to being shut down DBs.

Depends. The only time you technically shouldn't be looking for the ball all the time is when you are in a man situation and your target is running a deep route. In that situation you look back when the WR looks back/up (for the ball) or last ditch effort is when they put their arms out. Patrick Peterson for the Cardinals plays this route very well as a DB, mostly because he has the speed to keep pace with any receiver in the league.

Almost every other situation your chest and or face should be towards the play/QB watching for the ball as you run with your target.

P. Peterson's speed and saavy make him one of the very best at his position. Your points on playing the receiver are spot on, snyper. Sounds like you might have played the position at one time and for a good coach, as did I. It drives me crazy to see DB's turning their backs on the QB while trying to run with the receiver and not having a clue where the ball might be. None of the really good ones do this; they do it exactly as you've explained in your very informative post.

He waits too long to turn....

Thanks man. I've had a few good coaches over the years. Been blessed there. Just a student of the game. Feel like if I'm going to critique or watch it like i do then I need to know the game and how to play it. The correct way.

I haven't checked the stats, but it does seem like we give up too many 3rd and long / 4th and impossible plays. That always shines a harsh light on the secondary, although if you give the QB 4 to 5 seconds, he'll probably find an open receiver somewhere.

Sloppy tackling also seems to rear it's ugly head at the worst times. Not that there's a good time for it.

I think those guys are playing their hearts out, and that all you can ask of them. I imagine the coaches see it as well, so you have to assume that they're working on it.

Injuries have hurt as well, especially up front.

Bottom line: we have to be thinking "It's gonna take 35+ to win" going in to every game. That kicks the ball over into the offense's court. I don't see us winning a 17-14 slugfest against an SEC caliber team (now watch us do just that against Vandy...). 38-35? Yes.

Go Vols

Bama will throw for 300+ on our secondary. Book it

I could see that definitely being a possibility. Not trying to be a negavol but we've struggled with the deep ball especially with Foreman and Moseley covering. Sutton hasn't been as shutdown as in the past but he is reliable. Coker has the arm strength, so we need to pressure him and eliminate the deep threat.

I don't know why everybody on here keeps talking down Moseley. He's been beat a few times but there isn't a CB in football that hasn't....Cam included. He has also had some pretty spectacular pass breakups. Foreman I can understand, but Moseley is not getting beat consistently and is in pretty good coverage even when the wr has made plays.

The entire secondary is less than average. They have no idea how to wrap up and make a solid tackle. Lots of head down, throwing yourself at the ball carrier. The only DB I' saw make a solid tackle on Michel last week was TKjr. That guy should be on the field every snap on defense. I will be happy to see Randolph and McNeill go, Kelly and Berry are so much better. Cam sutton has to be banged up, he's not playing like he did last year. And if this keeps up, he won't go pro. No way.

Berry? He's a return man. He will have to get a whole lot better by next year from what I've seen out of him during the BG game.

I know I'm just a huge idiot for suggesting this, but why not have one of our three safeties, all of whom are better than Foreman, play nickel? They couldn't possibly get burnt any worse than him and they'd certainly tackle better.

I actually think Foreman would be better suited at safety. Let him hang back and play that rover type safety position, use his speed to make plays on the ball because his technique in coverage is what's getting him killed. I think if he was just having to be the over the top help and cover his zone he has the athletic ability to make a lot of plays.
