Mac vs PC (split)

The first PC I used was the old IBM with two 5.25 floppy drives (one for the programs and one for data; no hard drive) running DOS. Shortly after I bought the original Mac (1MB edition). Since that time I've used and owned both and while the Macs were more expensive they consistently:

1. were easier to use
2. allowed me to produce better output
3. required monumentally less routine care and maintenance
4. were generally better assembled
5. had less failures (only one battery failure on a lap top)
6. worked better with accessories - virtually no hunt for drivers, etc.

In the end, they've been a better deal for me. YMMV

+1. People refuse to accept the fact that it's about personal preference. I also use both, and I tend to prefer Mac. The programs I use just work better with OSX. That won't be the case with everybody. It just depends on what kind of work you do.

I've got a buddy trying to get me into filmography. Would definitely be looking at a macbook pro in that situation. Thats an expensive hobby, though.

New 27-inch Dell all-in-one matches iMac pixel for pixel | Reviews - Desktops - CNET Reviews

All-in-one comparison. Dell is getting there but iMac still has better graphics card.

And personally, while the Dell does a nice job of imitating the design of the iMac it still looks like a cheap knock off.

I was talking about laptops. And that also saves you $300.... But I would never buy an all in one PC unless I had 2 grand to blow.

But anyone who is grouped into the hardcore computer user group like myself will choose a PC every time.

I was an apple skeptic for a long time, then in my first 3 years of college I went through 2 PCs and on recommendation of my then girlfriend (now wife) I ponied up for my first macbook. That was in 2006 and I use it every day. The only component that failed was my charger cord, the end frayed from where I would wrap it around itself to travel. I want to replace it before I graduate in December but it keeps working so well I can’t convince myself to buy a new one…I don’ t know much about the technical side of the machine but what I do know is it has worked without flaw since I bought it and for that reason I will never buy anything else – ever. I’ve since bought 3 iPhones (original, 3g, 4) and 2 iPads.

If your experience is anything like mine, once you buy your first you’ll never buy another – especially if your work/hobbies don’t dictate you order anything in particular when buying the machine.

I still haven't heard a strong argument to justify paying 1.5 times what a PC costs for an Apple computer. I understand it's a better operating system, but 1.5 times more?

How about because Macs don't crap out after 18 months. If you choose to buy a $700 computer, don't expect it to perform well for after a couple years.

I guess I'm missing out! I should be paying more and getting less! I have had my HP desktop for 4 years and paid $400 for it. Still as strong/fast has ever.

Take care of it and don't be a retard when it comes to computers and you won't have any problems. Outside of just a defective part which is just as likely to happen in any other machine - unless you get like an Acer or something.

since I will continue to build my own computers, I will always have a PC. Apple's proprietary hardware configuration make it very, every expensive to DIY.

I see this everyday where I work. People just don't take care of their computer, and just expect it to work no matter the conditions. I've seen heatsinks on CPUs so dirty, that it pops the caps around them because it gets so hot. People don't understand the dynamics of a computer case, therefore, their computers fail and they have no backup of their work. It works the same way in laptop too, and people get upset when I can't do anything about it.

I've had 2 Toshiba laptops since 05. The first crapped out after 1.5 years (later, i was just tinkering and got it working again for about 3 months before it got the blue screen of death). The Circuit City guy told me Toshibas were one of the top brands for the money so I bought another one. It still works although I've had to reformat it twice due to annoying Windows glitches.

When I started grad school I bought an iMac. Since I got an iPad this spring I havent even turned on my Toshiba laptop in close to 3 months.

I've had 3 pc's in my life, all of them were running fine when I decided to upgrade because I ran out of room for more memory and wanted a faster processor.

This is the best. I agree. Most high end computering software only works on Windows.

I work in the Aerospace industry. Not one company in this industry; Boeing, Lockheed, Gulfstream, etc uses Mac's. They all use PC's like IBM or Dell, to run their design and stress software, i.e. Catia, Nastran, etc. Why do you think that is? Everyone's biased against Mac's?

Well you have had a better experience than most. If that works for you, that's awesome.

My fiancé has a toshiba laptop. Biggest piece of ish ever. Fan problems, errors popping up and this is only after a few months.

Work got me a dell. It sucks.

Been using PCs forever. Never had a problem. I assume people who can't keep theirs functional for more than 4 years are the type of people who still think anti-virus software costs money or limewire is good for downloading.
