M. Griffiths thinks Hurd should return

That was my initial reaction, but that is like letting the patients run the asylum. Coach just needs to act like he has a pair, and not set a bad precedence.

Someone blamed Hurd for the Carolina loss costing us the SEC East. I feel letting players have too much power led not only to Hurd's nonsense but a whole lot more than the SEC East.

Not sure if that's me, but I did have a conversation with KB a month or so ago on that. I honestly believe Hurd had more of an impact than some want to consider. If it is true, I blame Butch more than anyone.

As far as him coming back, I don't think it's a good idea to entertain. I'm all for second chances and I'm not butthurt over him quitting, I just think it's better to let it go and move forward and I hope that's what happens. I wouldn't lose my mind if it was allowed tho.

Ok so I've seen how a bunch are saying giving him a second chance, the problem with that is, what kind of example does that set to the rest of the team?

Oh look Hurd and his family acted like asses so now I can get a second chance too. No you don't bring him back for numerous reasons.

1.) You already have John Kelly ready to go, he's the defacto starter, you bring Hurd back and put him in as the starter and you lose Kelly.

2.) Can't really move him to TE cause then you're just gonna take away from another player there.

3.) WR? He's not fast enough, could be a good possession WR but we have enough WRs.

If he wants to play so badly he can drop down a level and play right away, but there's too much baggage and drama with his family to allow him to come back, and if I'm a player on that team I'd be pissed if this was even discussed.

You really believe we have enough wr's?

Some of you are harsh and don't quite understand that Hurd is a kid trying to become a man (with not the best examples of parents). I guess none of you have never made a mistake and never asked for a second chance.

Does he make our team better....

If yes and he has learned from mistakes, you take him back.

It is very hard to believe no one is willing to take him because as we have learned in recruiting THEORETICALLY...kids can have murder charges reduced and still find a school willing to better their team...

How about, a contract:

he pays 1/2 of his 1st year's pro-ball $,
we make it to ATL, this $ is reduced by $152,500,
we make it to the playoffs, this $ is reduced by $252,000,
We get to the final game, reduced by another $252,000,
We win BCS, then everything's square.

He can get his second chance at some other school.

Do we know that that hasn't happened?

I think he might have realized he doesn't want to sit out a year and is hoping for a better solution.

I'm sure this "story" is click bait, so I ain't reading it. But the idea has some intrigue.

For Hurd, UT is probably his best option. Nevertheless, he and his family advisory council absolutely nuked his pro career. Coming here allows him to walk right in and play without delay, no learning a new system, and at least has the appearance that 16' was a hiccup that is all worked out. Would give him a better shot at the league.

For UT, Hurd is about the worst possible option i can think of. Your team had cancer (Hurd's attitude), endured the pain and recovery (losing 1 or 2 games, the East, and the season, roster shuffle), and went through surgery(cut Hurd and momma Hurd out, and endured the public scorn) in order to try and recover(Win the East while it's mediocre) this season.

I support Butch Jones while thinking he's made plenty of mistakes. But, were he to bring this guy back after that, I would instantly write him off as "over his head" in this job. If what we think @ this is true and Butch put another season at risk, then he could be certifiably insane.

Does anybody object to the team voting on it? They were closer to it than anybody. Seems like it should be left up to them.

It would have to be unanimous between players and coaches. If even 1 player does not feel like he should be allowed back on the team, it could cause major problems. Lets say he wants to play TE and a young unproven tight end (ie. little Wolf) has been working his tail off to play this year, then Hurd strolls in and takes his place on the depth chart. That would be a tough pill to swallow. So, IMO, there needs to be 100% approval from everyone in the football program. However, I don't see him coming back. Griff wants the clicks.

No way. Too many reasons not to want him but can you imagine the Butch-hate on here if he came back and brought his poisen with him?

I would say bring him back..we as fans, we cant be the judge and juror of his career..remember he still is growing up to become a man..we all made questionable decisions, but I think his problem was that he had to many people In his ear..trying to please his parents nobody knows what the kid goes through behind close doors..give me a hungry and determined HURD he will do great again...he just have to earn his way back again..

Link?

Even if this is true, this is not the same thing as voting on him to come back for the next season.

It was all over Volnation that there was a players only meeting after the SC game. They called him out, he threatened to transfer, they called his bluff, his feelings were hurt and decided to transfer.

It is different to vote a player on a team.

I'm all for a player coached team, but even if he came back and gave his all, how many other players would it impact in a negative way?

That ship has sailed.

So they didn't vote on it at all then?

Not sure, it was players only.

For all we know it was like when the guy walked on the Power T and got voted on in the jaw.

Either way it was settled then and to bring it up now is a great way to divide the team and/or fanbase.

Thanks M. Griffiths, just what we all needed.

The longer this plays out and he doesn't pick another school the more I think he will come back. Does he deserve another shot in life sure, is it here at UT? Me personally, I don't think so. I'm not Butch Jones so not my call.

I have no inside sources, but I think you are right. He might not have any good options.

But, man would this be a dicey call. Vols could definitely use the depth, but he cost us the East last year and Butch can't afford to let him sabotage another season.

Can a leopard change its spots? Usually not.
