LSU vs Coastal Carolina

I’m not saying it’s right but you should know when that one says stay off field to stay off. Part of scouting is to scout umpires also.
I agree with what CC coach said though- why is a grown man “shooing me away?” These are all grown men who should be able to deal with conflict. Why are umpires off limits? As long as you keep it relatively professional, I don’t understand it. I’ve also been an umpire albeit at a very low level as a young person.

It all started with his assistant coach, and everybody knows no umpire at any level will talk to an assistant coach in any sport. It is also a given at the top level that you do not question balls, and strikes.
But everyone does. You’d have to have 30 ejections a game if you realistically ejected everyone who questioned balls and strikes. This is on the same level as Nico Hoerner getting ejected recently for saying “bad day so far” or whatever when a ball was called a strike against him

Another great season of college baseball! This was one I didn’t see coming. I just didn’t think we had the pitching depth to get it done. However, some of the guys in the pen turned a huge corner the last month of the season, and you love seeing that this time of year!

I’ve had a lot of fun hanging out with yall on VN again this season! And I’ll look forward to doing it again next year!
Congrats. Incredible run at LSU.

The assistant got a warning (I.e. the team/dugout) and Schnall came out and asked what for? I read his lips before he confirmed it in his press conference. He’s 150 ft from his 1B assistant he doesn’t know what he’s saying, if he can even hear anything at all, being on the other side of the field. He was being shooed back as he was coming out to ask what the warning was for before he ever told the ump you’ve missed 3. If you give a warning to a dugout you should damn well be obligated to give the HC an explanation for it but he’d made up his mind already that he wasn’t inclined to do so.

Yes, that is how it started - a simple request for an explanation. This should not have resulted with two coaches being ejected from the game. It was actually the ump that caused this to escalate.

So a legitimate question. Would UT fans be just as mad if it has been Johnson or DVH that got ejected for this or is it just that for some reason so many UT fans were Coastal fans this weekend?

I called it when it was happening. When the umpires explains and then tells you to go back to the dugout for complaining in the first inning about pitches, you deserve to get gone. How do you allow yourself and your assistant to both get ejected in the first inning of a championship game over balls and strikes in the first inning? He claimed in the press conference that he never bumped anyone but the other umpire in the picture is having to hold him off which is considered bumping.

The way they put the brackets together, it was obvious they were determined to make sure it wouldn't be an all SEC world series/finals. Instead of the best teams, you get Coastal. Not saying they're a bad team, but I wonder if the field were put together without an anti SEC eye if Coastal would have been in this final?
Yep. The same Coastal with a natty in 2016, and the same total number of natty's as UT. The same Coastal that buried LSU in the Supers to get to Omaha in 2016. The same Coastal that won 56 games and until the last two had won 28 straight. The same coastal that went through FLA and Auburn (Both are in the SEC) in this this years post season to get to Omaha.

Edit:
Getting 13 of 16 teams into the post season is not anti-SEC eyes. The SEC performed horribly in the regionals and will likely get graded tougher in next years selections, as there were better choices left out this year in favor of the lower tier SEC teams that got in and got bounced like babies. Coastal was repsonsible for sending two of them home.

IMO, the NCAA should have stopped the game when the head coach was ejected from the game. The score was 0-0, this was then not a fair game. LSU championship should at least have a bold tainted asterisk by it. The umpire should have been removed from the game. If this had happened to LSU, the crowd would have revolted. The NCAA official were on site, they should NEVER have let this happen. I have a low opinion of the NCAA admin. This even make it lower. I can understand if this happen with score 5-2 in the 5th inning. 1st inning makes this unforgivable and LSU should not be champion without further games.

He came on the field when he was being told to get back in the dugout. That is an automatic ejection. You question balls and strikes in the first inning will get you ejected 9 out of 10 times. Especially after you have already been warned. Why would they stop the game at that point? He is not the first or last coach to get ejected for arguing with an umpire at CWS. That theory makes no sense.

You don’t think the manager should have been informed by the umpire why he gave a warning to the 1B Coach/team? If the manager is in charge of his team’s behavior, the umpire should have provided the courtesy of informing the manager why the warning was given. It’s simple communication and de-escalation. Angel is notorious for having rabbit ears, a big ego, thin skin, and a quick trigger. He made it all about him. Awful umpiring….

I would have, but it has more to do with my disdain for umps, refs, officials, or whatever you want to call them in any sport. In a championship game at this level - a coach should be able to give the ump lip on balls and strikes. Especially when said calls are bad calls and potentially affecting the game. They shouldn’t be untouchable or placed on a pedestal. I’m also not saying we should entirely get rid of them because someone is needed for subjective rules in sports. I just think they need to enable technology to reduce their responsibilities. We are all human and we all make mistakes. Let’s just minimize those some with technology such as calling balls and strikes, determining 10 yards in football and whether football crossed plane, etc.

Edit: Should also add context is key here. 1st inning, championship game, it’s loud and windy to point pitcher having hard time hearing calls, words said (which I don’t know fully), etc. It didn’t seem like he let a racial slur fly, which would be worthy of an ejection in this scenario.

I do agree, but playing devils advocate, te beatdown did not begin for another two innings. Pitching coach could have recognized that the pitcher was off and pulled him before the big inning got out of control.

One could also argue Coastal gave LSU plenty of ammo in the press in the days leading up to the series. They didn't give the team looking for natty #8 that much public respect.

One could also argue that in spite of what occured, Coastal had enough hits and runners left in scoring postion to have easily won this game. LSU pitcher was good and struck out a decent amount of batters, but he did not shut them down totally like game 1.

It has happened to UT, though on a slightly smaller stage. And, the inverse (non) appication of the "rules" have been invoked against UT in critical situations.

When was it explained to him? The warning was given from the plate after a pitch and he came up the steps and asked “what for” and was already being told to stay put while trying to get the explanation. The warning and ejection timeline was no more than 20 seconds apart.
