Lots went wrong but #2 is QB1 [JG discussion, merged]

I agree. Chaney stated that he threw the entire playbook at JG at the beginning of the year. It was more than he could handle. I think Chaney would admit that was his mistake. We probably win those first two games if the offense had not be overloaded with the playbook. Tonight was Chaney's best game by far. Great game plan and great play calling to go with great execution.
I agree on the too much given to him at the start of the year , I also think that they tried changing his delivery because he didnt throw the same as last year and believe it caused a lack of confidence that took time to build back up. I am hoping that now that it seems his confidence is back up he is starting to make the leap we hoped for at the beginning of the year.

They also bailed him out on numerous 50/50 balls. I would say the drops and plays the WR's bailed him out evened each other out. Yes there was a few drops but Jennings,Calloway and Palmer more than made up for it. They helped him out quite a bit.
They didn't bail him out, they did exactly what they are coached to do, win 50/50 balls. It's what big receivers do, it's why big time programs recruit big receivers. They didn't bail anyone out!

Does it really matter?

He stunk the first half of the season. He deserved to be blasted.

He is playing really well now. He deserves to be praised.

That’s all.

What I don’t understand is the short term memories, and the stick it to your fellow fans that noticed that JG stunk for 3 years. Short memories is a fandom thing, I suppose.
It's called development and maturation, doesn't always happen overnight. Talent has always been there, his resume is getting better every week.

I never jumped on the anti 2 bus, hated the shots he was taking in a lot of places, and I am ashamed that I did not publicly stand up for him this year. Tonite he never lost his composure, overcame lots of long yardage situations, mostly not of his own doing, and could have had over 500 yards easily except for a number of deep passes that COULD have been caught, not should have been necessarily should have been caught due coverage and contact.... not to mention the yards that showed up in the penalty column. Gutsy guy and I am thankful he could stomach some of the treatment he received and hope he comes back next year, though he has to be wondering to himself. He made some bad decisions and did not always execute, but not enogh to justify a lot of the shots I heard and read...
I took a beating on here taking up for him. No big deal, all those guys are backpedaling now!

We ran it well enough. Jordan averaged something like 5.8 ypc and we had 111 yards on the ground. Have to score more than 24 points when you have almost 600 yards of offense+ penalties from them. This should not have been a game in doubt.
Dropped pass in the endzone, 2 blocked FG and fumble cost the team 10-17 points. 41 points would definitely had looked better.

JG said post game he is returning next year. That means one too many QB’s most likely. Seems like Shrout is most likely to depart, but no guarantees. Anyone ever heard of 5 QBs on a college roster?

VFL. He's continued to grind despite the boo birds and negativity from our fans. He will be the starter for the remainder of his time at UT and he's earned it.

On related note, our wide receivers are really well coached this year. We've always had big receivers, but these guys understand the intertrelation of their routes and they have been coached how to use their bodies to provide a big target and to block out defenders. To me it means the coaches are moving beyond the big picture and focusing on the finer points of the game.

JG deserved the criticism and deserved to be benched, sorry. He had to win the trust back of the coaches and players. Why should the fans be the bad guys here and apologize to him?!?

The boos at home were crappy. There were idiots on this board that were trying to evaluate body language when he was benched and say he wasn't engaged and he needed to go. Lots of classless behavior by some of our fans.

He’s earned it. Hope he does return and have another offseason and year with Chaney. Can’t wait to see that progress next Fall.. 😱🤩

The way he's progressing the last half of the season is incredible. His talent is top notch and now the mental side is coming around. Him continuing to progress and then come back next season would be big for this team.

There were people on this board saying that they wouldn't watch the game if he were playing. IIRC there was even the notion that some would rather see us lose with another QB than win with JG.

Pruitt had his back the entire time while this board was dumping on him.

I just don't understand why we can't score with those kind of numbers. Tyler Bray had 4 400+ yard games and we averaged 49.5 points in them. It's crazy to get an excellent performance yards wise but its baffling to not be able to turn it into points.

Not blaming JG for this, but can't explain it.

It's hard to finish when you can't Run It In! Neyland said "When you throw it, 3 things happen and two are bad." That aside, We are who we are, and without JG at QB, we are staying home for the bowls.

On the short passing game he needs to get a feel for putting some touch on the ball. He puts it on a rope to the release RBs outside over and over again. If he'd just slightly lead them or put some touch on it he'd improve that part of his game significantly. Hats off to the youngster, he really played well last night and deserves the bouquets coming his way this morning.

I have supported JG from the start of this season; BUT, that Alabama Debacle deserved him getting dumped on. And I couldn't be happier that He got Redemption! That's amazing.
