Scott Frost was the guy I wanted most after Lyle. His resume at the time checked all the boxes for an up-and-coming Coach on his way to being the next big thing.
What an absolute flame-out and disappointment.
- College QB under 2 Hall of Fame Coaches
- Won 2 Nat'l Championships
- Played in the NFL on Defense
- Coached on 4 teams that played in BCS bowls
- Developed multiple players that went to the NFL, including a Heisman trophy winner
- Coached as both an Offensive and Defensive Coordinator
- Took over an 0-12 team and had them at 11-0 in 2 years w/a national ranking and a win over #7 Auburn in a bowl game

I don't think what happened is a fair judgement on Frost's ability as a coach. Bob Devaney and Tom Osborne caught lightning in a bottle (before the onset of things like NIL). Nebraska is in the middle of nowhere. How do you recruit to a place like that?
UCF played (at the time) in a very weak conference and the 13-0 season they also played a weak ocs. Yes they beat Auburn…..they had a good team and they had some talent.
Yeah, no sh!t he did a lousy job at Nebraska. That's why they fired him. Duh.
But if you're trying to downgrade the job he did at UCF by pointing out seasons from 2-3 years prior to his hire, but not the 0-12 one one immediately preceding it, that's reaching. As is trying to write-off the schedule he played. Not only did UCF beat #7 Auburn in a Bowl Game that year (who had beaten Nat'l Champ Alabama the game before) but they also beat #21 South Florida and #25 Memphis (2x) that season.
I mean...Pruitt had a great resume as a coordinator, even if you don't count his time at Bama (and you should count his time at Bama). Kirby Smart and Bob Stoops had never been head coaches at any level, either. Bill Snyder had been an assistant at various levels for 25+ years, but never a HC, when KState hired him. That's why ADs have to look beyond a resume, I guess. Pruitt didn't have the mental makeup to be a HC. But plenty of coordinators become great head coaches.
Article didn’t say much except he was late to meetings and didn’t pay attention to details.
He would have been a better choice. No ncaa issues.Nebraska Football: Ugly accusations surface after Scott Frost’s departure
Looks like CJP wasn't the only one that was in over his head...we dodged a bullet here, as alot if us wanted CSF
Hell everyone wanted Frost. He was one of the hottest coaches on the market. It's hard to believe he turned out so sh*tty. It takes talent to be that badNebraska Football: Ugly accusations surface after Scott Frost’s departure

Honestly I think Phil wanted a coach he could control. He was still bitter about being fired and he was gonna prove to everyone that his way was the correct way. He game passed him by and he couldn't accept it.Pruitt is just plain dumb. Might be a good defensive coordinator, at least when he has 7 or 8 NFL players out of his starting 11....but he is dumb as heck and anyone paying attention could see it. If Fulmer couldnt tell that this guy couldn't even speak with the grammar of a backwoods 5th grader nor count to 20 without taking both shoes off....then Fulmer was blind and not qualified to be AD sadly.
Then you add the dirty stuff causing NCAA sanctions....he couldn't even cheat correctly or intelligently like everyone else does.
2 worst seasons in UT history...courtesy of a Gump. Nice
You don’t. Neb as a program in my opinion is screwed. Frost did the best he could do. What kid wants to be stuck in the middle of no where to play football. They will have a hard time finding a name coach to go there. Sound familiar?I don't think what happened is a fair judgement on Frost's ability as a coach. Frost lost in ways I never thought possible. He was just more likeable than Cornbread.Click on the reddit link in the article. Lots of rumors make it sound like Frost didn't give a **** about Nebraska football and used his hero status to full advantage partying it up with coeds and drinking all the time. Of course people can say whatever on the internet. I think Jeremy Pruitt still hangs on to the worst hire ever crown.
They caught "lightning in a bottle" for 40 years??? I don't think you understand the concept of what lightning in a bottle is.I don't think what happened is a fair judgement on Frost's ability as a coach. correct…but in all fairness many were saying the same things about UT until we found what appears to finally be our guy. There’s also plenty of schools which are in remotely populated areas…wvu, Penn st, even Iowa…no reason Nebraska can’t at least get back to Iowa type level of competition. You don’t. Let’s move on. Fulmer went into retirement after he won the natty. He was bad. Coaching staff was bad. Recruiting was bad.Honestly I think Phil wanted a coach he could control.
