Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Huge F.U. to any recruits that were led to believe we were going to get the best OC available.

To hold off until NSD and then say it was Debord 10 days ago is dishonest and underhanded.

I don't care how old Debord is, what bothers me is that no other team has truly wanted him in 2 years (not even for OL Coach) and he hasn't called a play in 8 years.

Seems like a huge chink in CBJ armor if this goes south.

Mueller is pulling a massive inside troll job!! He truly does have inside info, but him and any other insiders are spreading this smoke so CBJ can pull a rabbit out of the hat type of hire on NSD!!!

Maybe just wishful thinking...

Maybe he wants someone to help balance the pass vs run game. See the Superbowl yesterday? That just shows why it's important to have confidence in both the run and pass games. Many spread teams are too pass happy and do not focus enough on the run game and proper blocking techniques for running plays.

I bet when the announcement is made, Coach Jones mentions a more balanced run and pass game along with helping to coach up the o-line. When I say balance, I'm talking effectiveness and not necessarily just the number of plays.

Bottom line, "fit" in regards to team needs, team chemistry and experience.

We ran the ball well last year when we left the Pro Style QB and went with the dual threat QB running the read option.

Maybe Coach Jones is giving the irrational emotional twits within the fan base time to come to grips with a decision that is best for the team.

Guess you aren't aware the "read option" isn't that much of a factor in this offense. It looks like a read option but it not a true read option.

Let me ask you a serious question. Do you truly feel that UT has done everything they can to put the best coaching staff together to compete for conference or national championships?? Now I completely support CBJ and we got extremely lucky, but when have we mirrored ourselves off of what other contendors are doing? Meanwhile, Bama, Florida, Auburn, and Michigan are doing whatever they can to get the "edge" in coaching. I'll come back and each crow if DeBord pans out, but history would prove otherwise.

No where in my statement did I say well enough or no room for improvement...Nice try.

I said we ran the ball well when we switch QB's. I don't need a splashy name, but I do need someone that has called plays in the last decade.

I read some of this crazy(sky is falling)stuff and laugh. This is an entertaining thread.

There are people who actually believe that Jones would hire an unqualified doofus with zero credentials, because he feels sorrow for him, or owes him a favor. I can't believe that some people think that Butch is as dumb as they seem to be.

I don't know what all has been done behind the scenes. I do believe there are excellent coaches out there that are being overlooked for whatever reason. I also believe the key to winning big is exceptionally talented players.

I also understand there are exceptions to everything. There are coaches that have overachieved with sub par talent on the field and vice versa.

No, you pointed to the running results as a counter to my comment that I think Coach Jones is going to try to get a guy that will improve the run game.

Do not get how people can form such strong opinions. Debord may be bad but he may be not bad. He may add power running traits, he might not freeze in the heat of a game because he's been there before unlike a newbie, he may not be looking for his next job as soon as he gets here unlike an up-and-comer. Butch has way more invested in the success of the team than any of us - he's not taking the decision lightly.

I also find it interesting how so many can sing Coach Jones' praises for being such an awesome recruiter with an incresible ability to identify player talent but is a complete idiot when it comes to hiring an OC.

Not sure CBJ has more invested than us fans. I have been through several coaches in my lifetime and I still bleed orange every day of the year. Coaches move on, fans are always with their team.

So, how many millions a year do you have riding on the Vols? Coach Jones has a few. Does your livelihood and reputation ride on the season's outcome?

He will get another job after UT if he leaves or gets fired for his recruiting alone. You missed my point, but you may be a fair weather fan, but I'll be a UT Fan long after CBJ is gone.

No just the outcome that I fear, brother. If he is hired, I will support him. If he succeeds I will be elated to be wrong, but I just feel that Jones is hiring a warm body to do his bidding so he can assume complete control of his offense. Could easily be wrong.
