Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

I get all that, it's just that there's a lot of people on here acting like he's the oldest man alive and that there's no way he knows how to coach because he's old.
I agree with you, and I tried arguing with this bunch of Debord detractors a few days ago. I gave up. Forget being fair and rational , and having an open mind. It doesn't work here.

We have not lost one recruit and have even picked up more while having no OC and DeBord being known as the front runner. These actual events don't curb your gloomy predictions at all?

Not to mention that Debord is not from out in left field. He is decently experienced. I did a little looking around to see what his tenure at Michigan was like. Here's a snippet from that article.

"Originally hired as an offensive line coach by Gary Moeller at Michigan in 1992, DeBord was promoted to offensive coordinator by Lloyd Carr prior to the 1997 season -- a year that culminated in a Rose Bowl victory and a national title.

That year, he was named The Sporting News' National Assistant Coach of the Year.

DeBord was hired as the head football coach at Central Michigan in 2000. He went 12-34 at CMU during four seasons in charge of the program. He offered his resignation in 2003, citing a lack of resources to build the program.

From there, he returned to Michigan as a special teams coach and recruiting coordinator in 2004 before Carr eventually promoted him back to offensive coordinator in 2006."

Also looking at Rivals.com, Debord was point on a few recruits each year (mainly OL).

I'm not saying he will be great but I have a hard time believing that he would be absolutely terrible as well.

And thats the whole point. He's not a flashy hire but I feel he is capable to run a fairly simple offense - At the very least- and possibly add a couple of things.
We are not doing an overhaul like with Sal.
Nor are we giving complete control over to the new hire.

I'd be interested to dig into his time at Central Michigan to see why he failed so miserably. It's also a little disconcerting that he was the OC in the last few years of the decline at Michigan. If I remember correctly, Michigan fans just wanted Carr out just as Tennessee fans were fed up with Fulmer. If the two situations prove to be similar, than I would have a hard time pinning a ton of blame on Debord.

He probably failed at CM because of his sorry OC. lol

Funny but makes a good point.
I'm learning more about him than I ever needed to lol. Some are throwing his HC record in with his OC record.
(Can't imagine what their trying to do).
His OC record is not that bad.

He was the o-coord from 1997-1999, and again in 2006 and 2007. The last 2 years , Michigan was 20-6, and ranked #8 and #18 . So, I don't believe that "he was the OC in the last few years of the decline at Michigan."

What's-his-name said don't do it, but I'm just gonna trust Jones on this one. I think he'll do the same thing every great HR manager would, hire somebody who brings the most benefit to the team/crew/organization. And he's in a better position to know what that is than anybody here.

I think a lot of people do not realize Butch was his OC

1. Denial

There is no way Butch is going to hire Mike Debord. He's been out of coaching a year and he hasn't been an OC in several years.

2. Anger

WTF could Butch be thinking??!! Is he really going to hire a guy that spent the last year as an Olympic coordinator? The guy's not even a QB coach! Butch would have to be insane to make this hire!

3. Bargaining

Okay, maybe Butch just brought in a mentor to help him make his decision. Maybe DeBord will fill another staff position. There has to be a perfectly rational reason for this.

4. Depression

Oh God, DeBord is going to be our freakin' OC next year. All those names out there, and Butch is going to hire an old friend that hasn't called plays in years. We are freakin' doomed! We're going to have a GA coaching our QBs! Uuuuuuuuuggggghhhhhhh!!!!!! We're going to suck again!

5. Acceptance

Okay, Butch has to have some idea of what he's doing. He has to know he's putting his ass on the line with this hire. Surely he has a plan. He's Butch Jones! He gets it! DeBord will be fine. I hope. I really, really hope.

Oh God we're going to suck again.

Laugh people. We're taking this way too seriously. It may be a make or break moment for Butch, but we're Tennessee, we'll survive.

Sixth stage: Optimism
I could be the OC with this talent on offense and the defense we are about to unleash.

7th stage: Economical
UT could get me for 200k, unless the powers that be bawk, then I'll sign for 100k.
