Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

The good news is DeBord has not been officially hired. The bad news is he is the leading candidate. There may still be time for Butch to come to his senses but I think he is locked in on DeBord.

Yeah I get that feeling as well. Hopefully whatever is decided though will pay off this next season.

There is an article on govols247.com by Rucker that says there is one name mentioned more than any other and not a VIP member anyone know who this is? Debord???

I'm a vol fan.. After kiffen I trust no one haha. All I'm saying is Butch hasn't steered us wrong yet. We need to just slow down and see how things play out. I think he has a plan, and I feel like he's got everything under control.

I just dont see how Butch can go from saying it's all about fit when it's a buddy from old times who runs the pro style and did so 8 years ago. I could understand as an OL coach but not OC.

DeBored is a washed up, has been pro-style coach. May be a great person and a good friend to Butch but there's a reason he hasn't been sought after in the last several years.

The stubborness to not think outside the box is butchs biggest weakness. There's a lot better OCs out there. Loyalty can be a killer.
If this program starts to trend backwards again....all this goodwill towards Butch will turn into venom, overnight.

Gotta get this hire right. Just promoting Azzani would be a better move than hiring DeBord.

WR commit Preston Williams on Bajakian's departure:

Vols WR commit Preston Williams reacts to Bajakian's departure

"Preston Williams remains committed to Tennessee, just as he has been since September 2013, but he’s admittedly keeping a close eye on the first major change to Vols coach Butch Jones’ staff in almost two years....

The five-star senior wide receiver from Lovejoy High School in Hampton, Ga., said Thursday night that he’s a bit “nervous” about the departure of Tennessee offensive coordinator Mike Bajakian..."

We REALLY need to get this right or we might see a lot of flips on NSD. DeBord won't cut it, IMHO.

No matter who the OC is there will still be a need to pass so whats he worried about ?

Exactly. That NC season was just before we won our NC. Nearly a lifetime ago, in College Football chronology. Most of these recruits were in diapers, then.

I think he's concerned that Butch may hire a run-heavy OC...where the passing game is just an afterthought. Sort of like Georgia Tech and yes, Auburn...whom he just visited.

What if he is hiring Debord as a Position coach and promoting coach Z to OC.
I'd be ok with him replacing Mahoney, as the OL coach...but not as the OC. Just too many good names out there to go this route.

You cannot tell me that Marshall's Legg wouldn't be one of the best possible options. His offense is not dissimilar to the one we've been running. And to have the No.2 offense in all of the FBS

Certainly seems to be and we had better just get used to it, I guess.

I'm afraid anyone hoping for an OC to come in here and revolutionize the offense is going to be highly disappointed.

Then count me as one of the disappointed. I was hoping the bank would be thrown at a big name OC who would come in and inject some dynamics into the offense. Oh well.

Is the title of the article "Vols OC search update: Saturday Night"

If so, yes it is DeBord

Yo Butch you can recruit 18 year olds. It's time to recruit a OC for this university. DeBord seems like that hire after you've searched for 3-4 weeks for a OC. I'm fine with Cumbie, Laffouer, Smith, Magee, Legg, Or any good spread coach but NOT a pro style 60 year old man who hasn't been an OC since 2007 and hasn't been relevant since freaking 1997-1998.

Bringing in somebody new has a chance of upsetting the apple cart, since several on the staff have worked together for a while.

I'm starting to feel about as nauseous as I was when Derek Dooley was named as the likely new HC hire.

I think we all sort of threw up in our mouths a little bit, when the announcement was official.

Don't do it, Butch. Please....don't do it.

I would assume that AT BEST it would be a co-coordinator position with coach Z which I don't see turning out well.

AT WORST he is the lone OC which is even worse.

No way ZA and Debord are co coordinators. thats too much money for hart to spend on the both of them

Yep. Also we need to worry about FUTURE recruiting. I mean how many recruits in the 2016 and 2017 classes are even going to know Debords name? If he is hired I think it's going to be disastrous.
