Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Only reason I could think of. The guy brings absolutely nothing to the table.

A ton of experience. Pro experience. Head coaching experience. OC experience. Very successful as a OC. Previous experience with OL (a spot we were horrible at).

Yes, this guy brings nothing!

He has experience, but had a very poor record as a HC.

.....but, but he's not a 5 star.

Monte Kiffin had a stacked resume too. Means squat if he hasn't evolved with the game.

You said he was an excellent HC, then edited your post

I unintentionally put that he was a very successful hc, and I did edit it to state that he was a very successful oc.

But his head coaching record is not relevant

My opinion is that Butch likely learned a lot from Debord under his tutelage when he was young and inexperienced. I hope he isn't overrating Debord due to that. Butch may not realize it, but he has far surpassed his former teacher.

The pupil has become the master...

I wouldn't consider 12-34 as a HC very successful. If DeBord is was as great as you say I wouldn't think he would have been unemployed for the past 2 seasons and you would hear his name in pretty much every OC opening. I trust Butch, but if he believes DeBord would be better then Cumbie, Meacham, McGee, Scott, Napier, or Legg I would question his ability to find the right fit just my 2 cents

I will support whoever Butch decides to pick but I would be pretty disappointed in this pick. Its not that I don't think DeBord can coach I just feel like there are better options available that would bring this young, potentially explosive offense to new heights

I've been told by a program source that Mike DeBord was on campus for at least much of today as well as a good chunk of yesterday.

Hard not to look at DeBord as the leading candidate at this point. That seems pretty obvious.

With that said, I don't think anything is done as of now.

Another source who knows DeBord said he wouldn't be surprised if DeBord got the job. That source doesn't work for Tennessee, for what it's worth.

I think the hire will come as soon as Jones is convinced he has the right person but also covers his bases in terms of speaking with a couple of other candidates.

Absolutely, Mike DeBord is far and away with leading candidate --- and Tennessee has been checking sources on DeBord but also vetting multiple other candidates.

DeBord remains on campus and has met extensively with Jones and his entire staff this weekend, as well as other people on campus. He's also, we've heard, logged some time with some Vols' players including Josh Dobbs.

I think in speaking with Butch he has a strong relationship with Zach and wants to see him succeed and grow his career but also would love to keep Z here. I do know from folks on campus that something along the lines of "passing game coordinator" and perhaps an increase in pay have been discussed.

I do hear, not from someone on campus but in the college football world, that Kurt Roper had expressed interest, but I am not sure he's on Tennessee's short list of about five guys.

Call me crazy if you wish, but I feel pretty confident that a man with a Master's degree, and 30 years coaching experience on the offensive side of the ball (25 in college and 5 in the NFL), could surely learn Butch's offense.

I'm hoping he took the last couple of years to become an expert in Jones offense while he was shepherding Olympic athletes.
