I've been consistent that you build districts around dense clusters and around contiguous counties.

The one thing this would do is create many more neutral districts (somewhere between +9R to +9D). That would eliminate a lot of nonsense on both sides. If Ds had 150 competitive races vs 40, they wouldn't be pushing chicks with dicks playing girls sports....

It may need to be done by constitutional amendment, I’m really not up on that part of it, but I like the idea of capping the number of times the boundary of a district can deviate from a straight line. Cap should be somewhere in the single digits. State borders would be the only exception and there would probably need to be some way to prevent abuse of curves.

Probably would never happen but I think making more districts purple/competitive is one of the best steps we could take to move politics back to the center.

I had AI draw districts in AR, LA, MS, VA, TN, AL. All had distinct blocks of contigious counties and the only counties in two districts was Shelby (TN) and Fairfax (VA) due to population. It took 90 seconds. Go from 0 competitve districts to 9 in those 6 states.

Anyone with more than two functioning brain cells knows that it's a spending problem. I think that is the one thing that most of us on here can agree with. I will wait and see if Trump's plan works, but right now I am pretty optimistic as long as the country doesn't go insane in November.

I really don't GAS about the redistricting battle going on right now. I find Virginia interesting in the way those people were duped by a CIA operative who within a week is giving them a tax structure that rivals KKKalifornia/IL/NJ/ and NY. They voted for that though. I hope they are happy. Same as NYC.

The interesting thing about the gerrymandering dust up is where it is going to fall when the music stops. I just hope it results in more red seats. But it's nothing new.

How are voices drowned out? Are they not allow to vote? Drawing a district to carve out a racial demographic that doesn't reflect the actual sentiment of the constituents at large is wrong. If the people of Memphis don't like that they are the minority, move. There are plenty of states that are blue.
Perhaps instead of rigging districts to win elections perhaps having winning ideas is the way to go. All Cohen said in his protest against the redistricting was that he was going to fight Trump. The democrats need new ideas.

Yeah man, I'm sure Memphis is definitely not the primary source of tax revenue from Shelby County considering that is represents more than 2/3s of the total population of the county, and has a higher residential and commercial tax base than all of the towns in Shelby county combined.

I mostly agree with this, in every instance there should be identifiable grids with little deviation. Gerrymandering the grids should neither create nor exclude a representative majority based on race or other demographic.

The fact it was gerrymandered is irrelevant though, it was gerrymandered before the most recent gerrymandering. But you're correct, it's politics as usual.

This post only makes sense if you believe a district of only Memphis wouldn't go Dem. They aren't a minority until you draw a snake-like district to make it so. Purposefully drawing a district that includes Nashville to Dyersburg to Memphis has zero to do with "getting rid of racism".

Memphis is an anomaly in the state of Tennessee. Why is that? All constituents should be represented not just urban population centers What other districts in Tennessee have only one urban population center? Answer: None. The old ninth district was only Memphis. This ain't California, New York, or New England where the racists live. I say if you are a racist, move there.

The tarrifs would only really work if we had similar items domestically produced in quantities sufficient to satisfy the needs in the US. Raising the price on Americans only inflates the cost. We get nothing out of it besides the tab.

If it helped you support domestic manufacturing I wouldn't mind it. As it stands it's just a tax we have to pay.
