UK was improving when it lost Noel. I felt like we could have made a run at the end and ended 20-25 in the rankings before the sec tourney. We predicted based on no one being injured and on potential. This team could have been great, but just never clicked as a team.

Being 100% honest and trying to be unbiased here...

UK is stacked next year. Absolutely no doubt about it. You can't even begin to compare this year's UK team to that one. The makeup will be so completely different, as will the quality of the players coming in.

BUT...if we get Maymon back healthy and Hubbs is as advertised, we would definitely compete. McRae, Stokes, Hubbs, and even Maymon all have NBA potential plus experience on their side (Hubbs the exception of course). Give Richardson another offseason and I think he'll be able to check anyone in the SEC.

Not saying we'd win the SEC or even beat them at Rupp, but we would absolutely be competitive with that roster. Oddly enough, Golden seems to step up his game against elite competition. Although he's nowhere close to Harrison, I think he could hold his own.

I'm curious about this Harrison kid.(and yes I know they are twins) But I'm referring to the pg. IIRC ESPN had one of his games this year on TV, and honestly never saw a player whine and cry worse than him, in high school. The guy fell(like most do when going to the cup now)and got up like he was dyin. He stayed in the game. And didnt favor any injury. But during dead balls, he would wince and milk it like I have never seen.

I brought this up because I think that KY team last year is the exception to the one and out scenario's as opposed the the new rule. And I agree w/ JonBoy that a more overall experienced team like UT will be a problem for KY. loaded or not...

Next year will be telling...calipari will NEVER have a more talented team than what he's gonna have next year. Will the talent outweigh experience or will lack of experience hurt them? If next years team doesn't make a final four most UK fans will be outraged and Cal will probably have to change his methods a bit.

Just a thought. Do these highly-ranked potential one and done UK recruits kind of count on the current one and done players moving on to the NBA to make way for them?

At some point, you'd think it would make a few guys change their minds about choosing UK.

You've got Louisville fans screaming about "Paint Rupp Red!" and then you've got UK fans getting so pissed off about it.

And UofL fans have been piling on about the Robert Morris loss. Twitter-wise, it's a war. And in real life it ain't much prettier.

IMO this entire post is right on the money. AND this is EXACTLY what I've been telling all the excited UK fans up here. "Yes, you guys will be amazing, and I'd be excited too if I were you, but watch for us. We're good enough to not only compete with you but maybe beat you once." No doubt you've been telling the people in Lexington the same thing. :)

As you said, where they will have talent, we will have experience. A LOT of experience. Hubbs won't be asked to do too much and hopefully will thrive in that 'instant offense' role off the bench. And if all of our core guys (McRae, Stokes, Golden) manage to improve this offseason and Maymon manages to get healthy (not a guarantee), then watch out SEC.

There will be two teams good enough to compete with Kentucky next year. Tennessee and Florida. I would add Missouri if they were coached by someone not named Frank Haith.

Anyway, great post. November can't come soon enough. I'm so excited for next year.

Both IMO. You'll see a lot of both, and in flashes. They still won't have a 'Darius Miller.' And I know you know what I mean by that. Haha.

By the end of the year, though, I wouldn't bet against them.

I'd say UT has something to look forward to. Only 2 player losses and they weren't big losses to begin with and we get our best player back and a 5 star guard. It could be worse.
