Live From The Alamodome II...

Watching this game, I'm thinking Ohio State is going to be better next year without Oden. They seem to be a step quicker when he's not in the game.

They're going to miss Harris and Lewis, but their starting lineup next year is going to be solid with Conley, Cook, Lighty, Butler and Hunter.
I concur...they play much better overall defense without him on the floor. less is more sometimes.

HatVol .... what do you do for a living, man?! :) It seems like every week you're in a cool new place -- Vegas, New Orleans, San Antonio ...

Where you going next? Hawaii?? :) No, wait ... probably The Masters.

You're The Man! :salute: If you ever need somebody to carry your bags, look me up .. haha

I don't think Oden stays. I think he is getting frustrated and will want to get paid.
My question is, how did he get good enough grades to stay eligible anyway? He obviously has no interest in school and the look on his face  says hes's not the smartest card in the deck to begin with.

Oden graduated high school with at least a 3.8. So this comment lacks credibility. He is a good student and enjoys school, by all accounts.

Just curious, seriously. Why do all fans that Ohio State has beaten seem to hate the Buckeyes so much? They seem to me like a pretty good bunch of young men.

Excuse me. But it's widely known he wanted nothing to do with college. The NBA mandated that he go. SO take your credibility and shove it.

I don't know why, but as annoying as I find Dick Vitale, I find Raftery kind of funny. To me he comes off just sort of like Bertelkamp - a guy enjoying a basketball game.
Raftery rules. Near the end of the UT/OSU game, with it being so late, I think he was just making random sounds instead of saying phrases in that voice he does. I couldn't understand most of it late.

Do we have documented and photographical proof that Oden has ever smiled? He always looks like someone just killed his dog or something.

:lolabove: are you serious?? Why do you think we couldn't score for jack in the second half?? because Greg Oden was back on the floor for the whole time and we couldn't get a shot off inside for our lives if we wanted to. Also, other than Conley, why do you think Ohio State got better this season at the same rate Oden got better? Why do you think Ohio State almost lost to Xavier (Oden was in foul trouble the whole game) Without Oden, Ohio State isn't even close to the same team they are with him.

Cause when you play OSU, you have to not only beat them but the refs as well.

Cal to UK now where he can play some legit competition all yr?
Doubtful. He loves being a big fish in a little pond. He also has an excellent chance to make an even longer run next year with Rose coming in and 95% of the team coming back.

I hated OSU LONG before they beat any of my teams and no, I can't tell you why.

I think Connely is more important to that team than Oden.

Since you want a serious answer, unfortunately I've got to say that it's probably your fans. There are millions of them, they're everywhere, and let us just say that the OSU fanbase does not enjoy a reputation of being gracious and sportsmanlike in either victory or defeat. Every school has their own jackasses, of course, and God knows I've run into more toothless, horrifyingly obnoxious Tennessee fans than I could count. But you guys have somehow developed a national reputation for being especially over the top.

(That, and the calls.)

I don't want to sound like a d**k because you have shown nothing but class and respect, but you must be kidding if you think it's only the fans of teams you have beaten. Everybody hates you outside Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio.

Fair enough. Obnoxious fans are no fun, and especially so if they share your allegiance (due to the embarrassment factor). All I can do is give the opposing team its propers -- and the Vols deserve much respect for their excellent play this year -- and try not to be obnoxious myself. Thanks for the serious reply.

Very true here. I have been a part of a Mustang message Board for almost 5 years and every year we encounter those OSU fans in the Off Topic sports threads.

You have shown class, but unfortunately, you don't represent your fan base, at least as far as discussing athletics go.

I can't wait to hear hat's thoughts.
Here they are: 1. Cal was correct in the postgame press conference. The better team won. 2. That was by far the best I've seen Ohio State play on offense. They took on a very good defensive team and scored efficiently. 3. The officiating wasn't bad. Ohio State shot more free throws because they attacked the basket more aggresively. 4. Joey Dorsey needs to keep his mouth shut and develop an actual game. He ran his mouth in the press yesterday, then came out and stunk the place up today. 5. Ohio State is going to be just fine next year, even if Oden leaves as expected. David Lighty and Othello Hunter are going do very well in more prominent roles. 6. Ron Lewis is playing as well as anyone in this tournament. The three he hit to put Ohio State up 77-69 ended the competitive portion of the game. 7. The NCAA does a great job of padding attendance figures. The 26,260 they announced has to be tickets sold, because there was nowhere near that number of folks in the seats. 8. Derek Rose will make a world of difference for the Tigers. The last two years, they've been beaten because their offense went stagnant. 9. Mike Conley is solid. However, playing with the big guy and Lewis makes him look better than he is. 10. A stat that will be overlooked from the game today: Memphis was 4-16 from 2 point range in the first half. It's tough to win scoring exclusively from the perimeter.

I'm surprised you felt that way about the officiating. I can understand what you say, but I think double the FT's shouldn't have happened. OSU should be good next year, but I think we will be better than them, assuming Oden leaves. We should be incredibly motivated, too, for when we play them.
