Lindsey Nelson Stadium,

Update: Home from New York šŸ˜µā€šŸ’« Sorry I've been so out of pocket. I will be there tomorrow. Maybe just 3 innings but it was a goal to be there so I'm going to be there. As far as how I'm doing nobody seems to know. I realize it makes no sense but I can't even summarize it well. I posted about it at the above link. I should know next Wednesday if I'm cooked or if I'm getting surgery that could buy me a number of years. My seat is 212 row 3 seat 3. It's the first row of the upper section of the grandstand.
I came by looking for you. Hope all is well.

First game for me tonight

They got a lot done since I went over in the snow

The 53rd expansion of Haslam Field complex truly pisses me off and it was fine for no good reason ands at a late date

The former Pat Summitt Drive was planned as a nice wide open terraced plaza leading up from Todd Helton.

Because the football personnel wanted to flex like a little man in a F350, the Haslam Fences were pushed to just a few yards of the expanded Nelson concourse,

I appreciate football pays a lot of bills, but this dick measuring flex was useless and it doubtlessly slowed down the Nelson renovations.

I almost expect LNS will be demolished soon for a football practice field for zoysia so the team can get used that surface if they ever play on it.

I’m serious here, the former football coaches insisted that the view from the new Stokely garage be covered so they can privatize their CIA blackops plays. I have ZERO doubt they are now complaining that fans in baseball field can see into the 12 football practice field and are doubles demanding the UTAD cover the back with ugly screens

Secondly, the high dollar boosters are clearly not going to use the suites, 4TOPPs and club seats any more in 2026 than they did in 24 or 25. I believe this seat hoarding is spreading to the porches now as they only had a few users as well.

The lights are different and may cause problems until his get used to them.

The sound system us far improved

The scoreboard needs an upgrade

The new turf looks great. The old was clearly quite worn

There needs to be more options in VolShop but is is a definite upgrade.

Read all that and left unable to tell if you liked the new stadium renovations or not 🤣

LNS looks fabulous. They did a great job with the renovations. The uber wide concourses will especially be appreciated once SEC play begins. It looks like a top 10 college stadium suitable for a top 10 program. They do need to being the checkerboards back on top of the dugouts. I’m sure @preacherman20 would agree.

You and I came away with a lot of the same things. Especially the seat hoarding. It drives me bonkers. I guess when you get to a certain level of big money, you literally don't care if they sit empty 80% of the time.

Speaking of the football and their secrecy, when my old seats were in the back row of Sec. D, we would turn around watch spring practice between innings. One staff had an underling that would walk over to the fence, wave and make the knock it off sign and try to tell us to turn around. One of the more stupid things I've seen.

Re: Volshop- Supposedly that glass front down the 3B line is supposed to be another volshop but I don't have that 100%. In the run up to the opener all the work was focused on club and suites since "they were already sold" so nothing has been done in there or the pizza place next to it. Still used for equip storage as of last night.

My thoughts from the other thread: Overall, its a really good expansion with room to be tweaked to an elite expansion if UT will shift to a more modern approach in some areas.

Keeping in mind there's a fair bit not finished, but after 3 now 4 games:

Pros:

-New standing areas w/ drink rails in the mezzanine level are extremely nice additions. Nice covered spot when its raining, great view.
-More bathrooms are always welcome.
-Much wider concourses are a huge improvement, both in convenience and safety.
-New and more gates is helpful. Although the security perimeter is (hopefully) a work in progress. (Lots of new gates, but only 3 lanes for the metal scanners. I imagine that should be adjustable).
-New lighting makes more of a difference that I realized it would. Towers behind the suites look great.
-Its not open yet, but I like they'll have UT Creamery Ice Cream available soon
-Opened up 1B area between stands and offices with one less beer stand so more room to move about.

Cons-
-Its extremely premium focused. Biggest part of the improvements are behind the velvet rope but that's not a surprise.

-Premium hyperfixation leads to huge swaths of the stadium being empty or underutilized. We saw it last year in the porches and 4TOPPs. Saw it again Saturday. Beautiful afternoon. 5 empty porches, another 5 or 6 with 3 or 4 people on them. Club seats and suites were below half full (to be fair, some of that may be due to unfinished things and opening weekend). Hopefully that improves as the year goes along, but it oddly didn't last year.

-Switching MVP seats to their 'elevated options' Terrace/Riverside model is a greedy joke.

-Still no self serve soft drinks and water (I know its a pipe dream with AD DW in charge, but its pretty standard at new ballparks). Good luck finding a water fountain.

-UT's execution of 'grab and go' is wildly stupid. The idea is "walk in, grab quick prepackaged items, scan/pay, walk out'. Instead at LNS (and TBA), its "walk in, grab your items, wait in line at a register, let them ring it up, ask for a tip, then pay." Its a really odd setup I haven't seen used in any other stadiums/arenas. Most are automated or at least more like a self checkout at a grocery store.

Plus, they devote half the space in it to alcohol, which with ID checks, serving rules, etc defeats the whole purpose. Whole setup is extremely poorly conceived.

I guess I’m not that surprised by the ā€œseat hoardersā€ and empty seats because 1) it’s early in the season, the stadium is not typically full whether it’s dude to weather or schedules or just lack of interest in bad competition, and 2) even when competition picks up the last several years have seen some of the highest dollar tickets go underutilized all year (particularly the seats right behind home plate).

I don’t really know how you fix it. I think the stadium will fill up more in conference play like it always does, but the hornet’s nest that was LNS is gone. That was a very unique period of Tennessee baseball from 2021-2023. My guess is decision’s were probably made to cater away from students and the common fan and more towards premium tiers because we haven’t historically been a powerhouse baseball program, so maybe White thinks it’s better to keep the top dollar donors happy in case we hit a few down years and interest wanes with the common fan. I don’t know. I’m just kind of making assumptions.

I do

I just think there was simple things that were missed out in

The SRO in middle area is Awesome. I don’t think there’s bathrooms for those fans though

Storm delays will be zero problem with the far larger concourses under roof SRI

I think the outfield lights need to be tweaked

The ā€œFootball is King Alleywayā€ sucks and that’s never going to get better. Only worse as I’m sure football will do something fan unfriendly to keep people from looking to the stadium rear.

When they build the new high rise dorm outside right field, the view will be cool.

The street behind outfield needs to go. A huge scoreboard could go any instantly like UK has. I wonder if UT could bulls the large scoreboard across the street?

The batters eye needs replaced or painted

The additions are an efficient use of space. From the fields, I bet it looks like entering is on top of you.

Something more permanent needs be done for porches. Terraced towers with restrooms, concessions, good looking gate.

If the rail yard ever went away, can you imagine what UT could do with that much new space?!?!

They’d likely push the outfield walls back 20 feet and add new seating for the common man
New outfield entry plaza For baseball.
New track. Indoor and outdoor.
Likely new fraternity park
Huge parking garage
Another dorm or two.
Walkways to the soccer/softball area

I experienced this back in 2023 at the A&M series. We just waved back and kept overly demonstratively taking pictures of him waving.
