His name is Cuonzo not Counzo. If you are in love with the man you should learn how to spell his name.

You need to get your facts straight.

IIRC, His salary was raised from 1.3 million to 1.8 million.
His buyout was not 1.6 million, it was 1.3 million..

Why are you counting his buyout as salary? A buyout is not salary.

He did not get a $100,000 decrease in pay after his sweet 16 run, he received a $500,000 raise.

You are saying Cuonzo left for TRIPLE the guaranteed money. Do you have a link to substantiate that claim?

Guarenteed money in any contract is the lowest amount that they are liable for. If you sign the contract and your fired the next day. If he had signed the contract offer and was fired after the season he would make 2,8 million. If he didn't sign the contract and coached on his existing deal and was fired he would have been paid 2.9 million. He was offered 100 thousand dollars less guarenteed money on his new contract. Also I'm assuming that Cal wants him to be their coach for more then 1 year.

You: "I think you've got too much estrogen in your system."

I hope you're daughters, wife, and / or mother are proud of your sexism. What is this the 1950s?

Look, if you all want to argue it's a good thing that Cuonzo left so did at least four of our recruits and that we'll be better off for it in the short term (next 1-3 years), then by all means, go for it. You might be right. I hope you are right. I'm simply saying that the chances are against us.

Now, if you'd like to argue that UT football improved after we fired Fulmer, you go on ahead with your badself, male or female.

It's not a personal thing I'm arguing. It's a historical thing.

Next thing you know people on here are gonna start saying that Tyndall runs a run and gun system even though the numbers don't bare it out. Perception is everything, I s'pose these days.

Peace.

If only idiots think were racists then the majority of the country are idiots. A true idiot is someone who thinks how we are perceived by the majority of the country doesn't matter. Or that it won't kill us in recruiting.

Nick Saban doesn't give a crap about how anyone perceives him. Only the ignorant fools think were racist. I don't care about how they think. They're going to judge us no matter.

Those ignorant fools thought we were racist before Conzo left. As I said, it would be news to Dave Serrano, Tommy Thigpen among others if we were racist.

That's the nature of the beast. History bears this out again and again and again. Most revolutions fail.

Locally, we fired Fulmer: we started a revolution. Since then, we've had the worst football at UT anyone in history has ever seen.

We run off Cuonzo: it's a revolution. Starting from scratch. We're worse off now than we've been in a long, long time.

To not think this is scorched earth territory is wishful thinking.

I hope I'm wrong. I hope Tyndall gets this rolling right here and now. Unfortunately, I think it's gonna be awhile.

I hate it for JRich.

Martin was no prize, it took him three years to make the NCAA tourney, and a petition. Not to mention he had a very talented roster that until the petition underachieved.

Let's see where DT is in his third season before we start another petition.

Perception means nothing if it ain't a unbiased set of eyes. They do put estrogen in beer, so you could have too much of it. Winning is everything, and Conzo wasn't doing that all too well. It took amazing luck for him to get to the sweet 16. He's Dooley with a lot more luck. We should of been in the tourney in 2012... Anyone remember that? Conzo has proven that he loses big games. I bet he never sees a Pac title at Cal.

I don't know what History book you've been reading sport, but Washington, Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, Hamilton, would disagree with you. So do I!

Why argue any of it? CCM didn't want to be here so he is gone. Not much to about that to be said. He got a raise and an extension, but bolted as soon as he could. If you're a Vols fan I would expect you to be a bit offended by the fact that a segment of the fan base being critical of his record created more emotions in Martin than his love of the University and its players.

This isn't a revolution. This is UT moving on to a coach that actually wants to be a Vol.

Bingo! It will be better for us down the line. Tyndall is already a better coach than Conzo. He made the tourney more than once.

I don't think he was run off because hes black. I think it was simply the administration being cheap. But it was obvious how it would be perceived around the country. Perception is reality. You have to live in the world as it is. Not how you think it should be. You have to look at the consequences of your actions. Before you make them.
Everyone thinks were racists.

Talk to anyone from the north or west and they will tell you that we...

1. All live in trailers.
2. Are uneducated.
3. are inbred.
4. Talk funny.
5. Are racist..

He could of left for any reason and the would still think the same of us.

The overly dramatic opening was really all it took.

1 - It wasn't a revolution

2 - Recruiting turnover happens with most coaching transitions. If they didn't want to be here, then it's a good thing they left

3 - We won't ever know what the net effect of the recruiting turnover will be, and we cannot even speculate until the next class if put together.

4 - It's pointless to compare this transition to another, but if someone wanted to go down that rabbit hole, they could come up with countless examples where leadership turnover was a good thing (several at UT within the past few decades). So the comparison is pointless and the argument is invalid anyway.

I don't want to come off as a Counzo lover, I would have never fired Pearl in the first place, I would have brought him back in a second. But running off an african american coach after going to the sweet sixteen, the public perception in the rest of the country that were a bunch of racists and the administration isn't supportive of the basketball program isn't worth saving 200 thousand dollars. I never trust somebody can do something before they do it. Can Tyndell take a team to the sweet sixteen? Can he get 5 star recruits out of Memphis? Can he win in the sec and beat Kentucky and Florida? Counzo did. Can he run a clean program? Hasn't done it yet. The only thing he has proven is that he can win a Chazz Bono lookalike contest. And can't keep recruits.

That's classic! I knew he reminded me of someone and I kept thinking it was 'androgynous pat' from SNL back in the day...but it's definitely more of a Chazz Bono look.

I agree, this doesn't seem to be playing out as well as most had hoped for, at this point. I was vocal about CCM's perceived limitations and the potential ceiling of this program with him at the helm. However, the perception of our program has definitely taken a beating with the national media's slant on what has transpired and it now has a 'toxic' feel about it.

It would be interesting to poll those who, like myself, wanted CCM gone and see if at this point in time they feel like our program is better off than it would've been had we managed to keep CCM.

My hope is that CDT has let these recruits go because he doesn't think they are a good fit and has a plan in place to get guys he needs. The alternative isn't near as comforting to think about...that these guys (like the national media) see our school as toxic because we are racists who ran off a Sweet-16 coach.

Oh well...many on here have said it...be careful what you wish for.

Check out Nashville around CMA music fest. Northerners and westerners alike swarm to Tennessee. Gonna have a few here this weekend for the marathon.

The OP apparently forgot the last 8/9 years of Fulmer's reign, when we were headed steadily downhill. He needed to go. RE Martin, he wasn't fired and he wasn't "run off"--he left. Did he feel unappreciated? Maybe--but, first, if internet chatter bothers you then you don't have the right temperament for a major job; and second, what had he done to be appreciated prior to the little NCAA run? Nothing. I think Tyndall will be a better coach, but a lot depends on recruiting, of course.

He might also have forgotten that many characterize Fulmer's rise to the top job as a coup....a revolution in the purest sense.

I don't necessarily agree with that, but using Fulmer as an example of the victim of a revolution is kind of funny given the events that transpired to put him in the top job.

That's nice but that doesn't change what the majority of the country thinks of the south.

Your solution?...Quit being racist all over the place and?...oh yeah!...hire eye candy coaches...the X's and O's will work themselves out? :good!:

If Martin were white would race be an issue?
Obviously the answer is no and that's pretty racist in of itself imo.

Post of the Week DH. Excellent question.

The illogic of this racist fantasy is so bad that it does not warrant a response. I guess logic is not always necessary for someones agenda anyway.

We just want to win an SEC Title and make the Final Four in Men's Collegiate Basketball. Your asking for a bit much from the AD IMO.
