Let's talk DD weaknesses

I just thought it was really strange that he used his first post on Volnation to vent about spelling.

It was an odd start. It seems there would be plenty of other frustrations with posts worthy of one's first post, irrespective of one's own views.

Alabama may have felt nervous about Saban after his first season, but were not in a frenzy like this board. And didn't Meyer finish 2nd in the east his first year? Florida was not after his head.

Yeah they were nervous up until he reeled in the #1 recruiting class in February.

I feel he gets a pass for this year. And everyone always points out the good things a coach brings to the table and to look forward to more of it in the future. But also as a fan who pays good money to go to games I feel we should talk about his weaknesses if any. We need to know if some of them are just 1st year jitters or if they will be continued in year 2 and 3. I thank everyone for your responses ahead of time.

I rather talk about yours!!!!

The deadliest Avatar since Wild Bill, they say. What do you think? Should I hate him?
I don't even know him.
but there's just something about him. Something around the eyes, I don't know, reminds me of... me. No. I'm sure of it, I hate him.:lolabove:

So, you think the Tide faithful were maybe just a little 'nervous' after Saban lost to Louisiana Monroe in his first year? That's laughable. You honestly think that the Tide faithful were not in a frenzy over that?

If not, I guess there's no point in debating it.

We are in a predicament that was created over at least 6-8 years. No coach who's ever breathed on earth could fix that in 6-8 months, or in a year for that matter. Drawing conclusions about the coach based on our results being pretty much what we all expected after 7 games is beyond ludicrous.

Anybody that thinks they can assess his future success, or lack thereof, after 1/2 of a season does not have the intelligence nor disposition to follow football with any subjectivity. It takes time to a.) establish a his system b.) fix the wreck of a roster he inherited, which needs a serious talent upgrade. Once he has time to do those two things and is still no being successful then you can start your search for a new coach.

While I hate losing as much as anyone I am giving the coaching staff a pass on this season. We have played well at times and given national championship caliber teams a fight for a half...but depth has been our undoing. I think our recruiting class will fill alot of the holes we currently have and the freshman getting game time now will be a big benefit come this time next year. While I do not expect us to compete for the SEC title next year...I DO expect to see us fighting for wins late in the 4th quarter of games. When you look at the current roster I don't think you could look ahead to next year and see anywhere where we will be a weaker team than this year. I think we will see alot of improvement in this team in the near future. JMO Go Vols!

Lack of motivation on team, undisciplined team, bad half time adjustments, bad play calling(although Chaney calls the plays, he has a choice whether or not to run that specific play), doesn't have guts(FG attempt within the 10 yard line against bama, and dont bring up Simms throwing an int because that was the next half), has yet to correct dumb mistakes that should have been corrected a LONG time ago(having too little or too many players on the field). Overall im not impressed with Dooley's style of coaching. Say what you want about being young and lack of depth because those are true factors, but that doesn't mean Dooley is the brightest of coaches. I dont think he's cut out for this kind of job just yet, he just doesn't seem to have all of the intangibles that are required to be a successful coach in the SEC. Im willing to support him and yes I know this job is no easy task, but im not sure if he is the answer either. With that being said, an immediate change should not be made until after next year, to ensure that he isn't the right guy for the job.

I don’t think anybody deserves a pass. Even in a down year, there are expectations that the team will come out prepared and motivated to compete hard against any opponent. We should play to win every game, and if we don’t win, we should expect to see improvement.

No matter how bad we are, there are things we can do better right now. I like Dooley, but I think that’s where he’s falling short—not making the most of the limited resources we have. Our freshmen might not be Marcus Lattimore, but they have seven tough games behind them and this would be a good weekend for them to step up and play to their potential.

Every so often somebody shows up on a message with intelligence & common sense.

Most people will ignore or completely disagree with you, but you're right.

Patience & time people.
