Alright guys, lets step back for a moment from who's coming and who's gonna coach what. I want to hear some of your opinions on the current BS, I mean BCS vs. a playoff.

I just hope we get to worry about it, soon!!! If we went to a playoff I would think only a four team playoff.

"Playoffs?! Don't talk about playoffs! Are you kidding me? Playoffs

Sorry, I couldn't help myself with that one. I will take playoffs.

A true playoff system would revive college football... 1 and 2 loss teams would still have something left to fight for... it is very sad when a loss in September can take a team out of contention for a national championship...

Playoffs, take the title game out of the voters and computers hands and let it be decided on the field!!!

I have always been all for a playoff and still am but the best argument I have heard for the current system is the way it is, if you win the SEC you are pretty much guaranteed to be in the NC picture. Not always I know but you know what I mean. I still want a playoff though. The current system leaves too much to chance.

Playoffs would be very bad for the SEC. Teams could get to the playoffs by playing maybe one or two quality teams and ten cupcakes. IMO if playoffs happen:
- No tough OOC games.
- Drop the SECCG.
- Cut the regular season schedule back to 10 or 11 games.
- Some conference stalwarts go independent. Drop the disadvantage of having to play tough SEC conference foes every week. ND shows how this works.
- When a spot in the playoffs is reasonably assured, rest the starters.

I don't understand how some SEC fans can be in favor of playoffs. On any given week a BSU (or Utah!) can beat any team in the country. But play tough teams every week and the BSUs of the world either get filtered out, or prove beyond doubt they belong amongst the elite. Playoffs work to the advantage of one-shot wonders.

Im not against playoffs at all, but I do think the BCS keeps everyones interest up. I happen to like the fact that a game in september means just as much as a game in late November.

I used to be all about the playoffs, but I have been questioning them as of late. If you had a playoff system, how many teams would get in? When would they start? Would you have to cut the regular season short by 1 game, maybe 2? If you had an 8-team playoff or a "Final Four," fans and teams would still ***** that they got left out...it is inevitable.

That is why I have been leaning towards keeping the BCS. You just have to look at the regular season as the playoffs. However, I am not 100% sold on their "math" or "formula" for determining matchups. There seems to be too much money changing hands and the NCAA is making a killing. There is definately some work that needs to be done to the current system, but I am not sure that a playoff is the answer.

Playoff. The easiest thing would be to add one game at end of bowl season. You can still have all the bowl games so they don't lose the money. Basically a 4 team playoff

Games in September matter in the NFL too

I think a "plus one" game at the end if two teams remain undefeated would help. But what if......??? I know.

+1. Both systems have pros and cons and it just addles my brain trying to figure it out. I get more football with the BCS for example.

I have never been a person that wanted playoffs, but after reading this forum and searching I have begun to switch to a playoff based mind. Take for example Tennessee in 2001(or any other SEC school), Tenn played LSU in the SEC Championship Game and got beat and got basicly knocked out of Nat'l Title contention. Now what if their was playoffs, Tennessee would have been 10-2 and still in contention, but this loss made knocked them out and to add insult to injury Tennessee later played Michigan in the Florida Citrus Bowl and whooped Michigan 45-17. Now in this situation an 8 team playoff or more would've been perfect for Vol fans, it would've gave UT a chance and who knows Tennessee may have been the 2001 National Champions. *Just a thought*

I think the main disadvantage of playoffs would be that it would detract a lot from the regular season. That's what makes college football special, the fact that essentially every single game is a playoff game.

IMO the more teams you put in the playoff the less likely it will become. IMO the NCAA is run for the Universities, not the fans. The University Presidents won't allow all of the perks to go to the same 8 teams every year.

Current system - 64 Universities get to sell tickets, organize meet and greets, schmooze boosters at the Bowl venue, celebrate their achievements, get an extra two weeks of practice.

Playoff system - 8 teams get it all, and the rest just get a little more money.

IMO - Won't happen soon, if ever

There is not a good way to get one champion everyone can agree on out of 120 teams. I just want the Vols to win SEC titles on a regular basis. If we can win the SEC, everything else kind of takes care of itself.

I see what you are saying but I just hate how a team like BSU ot TCU or Cinci for that matter can go undefeated playing a cupcake schedule and think they should be in the NC game. Look how many times Ohio St has done that very thing. I say the 12 1-A conferences must have a championship game and you go from there. I know this will never happen because it takes away the bowl games and that takes away money.

I cant believe no one has used the argument of,, the smaller divisions of ncaa have a playoff and they make it work. Yea they have a playoff and look at the ratings, excitement that they generate. Not even close!
