Let the Vitello speculation begin!

Honestly @preacherman20 could come on here and say Kirby told him tony isn’t leaving and it wouldn’t settle much. Every man has a price, conditions, and obviously things change.

How he feels today has no bearing on tomorrow if revenue share ****s the baseball program.

Well that doesn’t help at all. I’ll be damned if I pay even a sliver of Rucker’s paycheck. 😬

But I’m happy to admit I’m wrong or at least plead ignorance because I didn’t read it.
Cliff notes: Vitello's appreciation is for the people he worked with at Arkansas (DVH, Hobbs, etc.,) not the university or area itself. A lot of that appreciation comes from the fact that he either coached guys who were on that current staff or played with them at Missouri.... doesn't expect Tony to take any job any time soon due to the fact that he loves Knoxville and is treated "like a king" in this state.

Basically, Tony V is ours so long as we don't **** it up

Kind of brings me back to my original concern. How he feels today has no bearing on tomorrow if revenue share and phone a friend white ****s it up

Im not gonna worry about him leaving for a job that isn’t open. If Van Horn were ti win it all and then step down, maybe I’d be concerned. Slightly. I tend to think Tony V wants to keep building what he’s started , but I’d be lying if I said that wouldn’t be an attractive job for him.

It depends on what matters to you. Being the guy who started a monster dynasty isn’t nothing. But having Arkansas better stadium and resources, despite our investment, isn’t nothing either.

That’s my point. With the House Settlement and drain to the AD’s budget that will cause, will DW continue to support baseball? My concern is will he pivot to focus on the margin generators (football and baseball) and treat baseball like golf and tennis? If 95% of the $$$$$ goes to football, basketball, and women’s basketball, baseball will be in trouble.

True, but I’d point out that Arkansas is also a school that will need to decide about financial commitments to football, basketball and baseball under the new model, so they may be in the same boat as us. They’re not UConn or Duke that would seem to focus on one major sport.

It’s still in the red. I trust Boyd to make DW keep baseball rolling more than I trust DW to want to do it himself
It will always be in the red, just like women's basketball. Sports like that you have to look at increase - or decrease - in revenue over time as opposed to profit margins. Every single athletic department in the Southeastern Conference is going to get 70-80% of it's revenue from the football team (with the exception of maybe Kentucky), which will trickle down to the other sports

To me, the people who say "What if MLB wants to hire Tony?" is like saying "What if Sydney Sweeney shows up at my house and wants to have relations with me???" My answer would be "Yeah, you gotta do it, but what are the odds of that actually happening??" 😂

My wife would understand so as fans we'd have to also.

I understand why people are concerned about this but at the same time football is the cash cow for almost every single school. I don’t think other universities can realistically devote fewer resources to football and invest in other sports without hurting the overall bottom line of the entire AD.

Just thinking about the other programs Tony would even consider leaving us for you have LSU, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Miss State, and A&M as the programs historically good at baseball in the conference. All of those schools (except for maybe MSU) are heavily dependent on football. I can’t see any of them deciding to split up revenue more equitably across sports like baseball. It would be a disaster for their football program. LSU may be the pinnacle of baseball, but in no reality is LSU football going to be splitting resources with baseball in a way that would disadvantage the football program.

I just can’t see revenue sharing distribution being something that stands in the way. All the big schools are in this boat.

I can at least confirm that Tony bought a sweet new house last year, so add that to the list of things keeping him around. 😛

The only way I see Tony Vitello leaving the Vols is because of immature fan base disgruntlement. We have characters that are never satisfied. It gets tiresome. Some will complain about this year and only making a Super Regional.

All I want is to maintain the consistency, but yet some will complain.

Arkansas will be in search of a coach in the future and no doubt they will come looking. LSU did it a few years ago and it did not happen but TV knows what he has here.

TV is a class act and it was noted several times after game 2 of the regionals. He spent some time on the field with Arkansas post game 2. Nothing to worry about, but just know he is who he is, a class act.

Year one after winning it all comes with growing pains and unrealistic expectations.

Watching the CWS without our Vols will bring a lot fans back to reality.
