We gotta eventually start beating Florida as well.I still think we are 2-3 recruiting classes away from seriously challenging UGA for the East. I do think we are on the right track. Win 8 this year and possibly 9-10 in 2023. But it’s way too early to even think about calling us the next elite SECE team.
It will happen eventually if two things stick. One, UT continues to have top tier facilities and support. Two, winning championships remains the standard.
My biggest fear is fans start to accept 8 or 9 win seasons as acceptable, and the old moral victory refrain, "Well Bama/UGA only beat us by a lucky TD in the 4th quarter." I think the administration is ready to cosign that sort of thing. I simply don't want to live in a world where UT football accepts championships are just lucky things that happen on The Hill you know like in Georgia where they happen about every 40 years.
I think we win 8. 9 is possible but I wouldn’t expect it. If we only win 7 this year, I would consider that a disappointing season.[/QUOTE. We will def probaly lose to Bama and Georgia but I’m hopeful we finally can get over the Florida hump but it sure wouldn’t be a surprise if we lose to them again would it. So where do the other losses come from? LSU at Baton Rouge ? at Pitt or at South Carolina. I do agree that only winning 7 again wouid be a disappointment. We need to hit 8 or 9 wins to show recruits we are on the right track and show improvement in year 2 with Heup.
One thing that I really like about Heupel is that we win the games we should win, and we don't make it close. Missouri, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and the non power 5 non conference games were all blowouts. Then he goes into Lexington and beats probably the most talented Kentucky team they've ever had.
Now he'll need to improve on that. Florida, LSU, Pittsburgh and Kentucky are all very winnable games. I feel like we should go at worst 2-2 in those games, but 3-1 would be a huge step forward. Then just win the other games you should win and you are 8-4 or 9-3.
One glaring item not mentioned in the article, though stating that offense now rules the game, we need to vastly improve on defense - not scheme but with players. Our guys were worn out in the 3rd quarter and the only way to overcome this is to have more able bodies on the bench, through both recruiting and development.
I do agree that our offense will put up points and eat up yards . . . at break-neck speed!

Not sure what’s funny. Dline will struggle. A Taylor gone. Theo gone. Lot of recruits will get a chance to play but most are developmental. SEC will get better scheming against our offense is a fact.
