I still think we are 2-3 recruiting classes away from seriously challenging UGA for the East. I do think we are on the right track. Win 8 this year and possibly 9-10 in 2023. But it’s way too early to even think about calling us the next elite SECE team.

We gotta eventually start beating Florida as well.

Considering where this team and program was last spring and that they were a few plays and calls from 10 wins then Yes in year 2 they can win 10 games. In such a better place is this team and program. Yes there are holes to fill but I have more confidence in this Coach and staff than many years past. In CHRIST Alone

It will happen eventually if two things stick. One, UT continues to have top tier facilities and support. Two, winning championships remains the standard.

My biggest fear is fans start to accept 8 or 9 win seasons as acceptable, and the old moral victory refrain, "Well Bama/UGA only beat us by a lucky TD in the 4th quarter." I think the administration is ready to cosign that sort of thing. I simply don't want to live in a world where UT football accepts championships are just lucky things that happen on The Hill you know like in Georgia where they happen about every 40 years.

I wouldn’t get too carried away. We need more players and we need to get this NCAA mess behind us. But I think we’ve got a good man in charge for the first time in 15 years and I’m optimistic for the first time in a while.

Please explain the fans start to accept 8-9 wins. What does that really mean? We fans do not have anywhere near the influences or control over the program that apparently you and some others believe. Stop showing up for games? Not going to happen. But let’s say it did. Say we average 9 wins the next 3-4 years. You think fans are gonna quit showing up for that after what we have been accustomed to the past 15 years? But like I said, say we did. And the attendance and merchandise sales plummet. Then Danny White will be forced to replace Heupel right? Because the fans have accepted 9 wins? Ok. So what kind of message does that send to a potential HC? That cos CNN will look at us and say wow, so Heupel rebuilt TN, had a good string of 9 wins seasons and they still fired him. You think any good HC would come here after that! Get real.

I think we win 8. 9 is possible but I wouldn’t expect it. If we only win 7 this year, I would consider that a disappointing season.[/QUOTE. We will def probaly lose to Bama and Georgia but I’m hopeful we finally can get over the Florida hump but it sure wouldn’t be a surprise if we lose to them again would it. So where do the other losses come from? LSU at Baton Rouge ? at Pitt or at South Carolina. I do agree that only winning 7 again wouid be a disappointment. We need to hit 8 or 9 wins to show recruits we are on the right track and show improvement in year 2 with Heup.

One thing that I really like about Heupel is that we win the games we should win, and we don't make it close. Missouri, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and the non power 5 non conference games were all blowouts. Then he goes into Lexington and beats probably the most talented Kentucky team they've ever had.

Now he'll need to improve on that. Florida, LSU, Pittsburgh and Kentucky are all very winnable games. I feel like we should go at worst 2-2 in those games, but 3-1 would be a huge step forward. Then just win the other games you should win and you are 8-4 or 9-3.

[/QUOTE]

This right here....

The past few coaches didn't do that. They lost to teams we shouldn't and played down to lower tier conferences.

However, Huep gives me hope. Cause.
- Blowout lower conferences (non P5) - check.
- Compete in toss up P5 out of conference - check
- beatdown lower tier SEC programs (vandy, SC, Mizzou, normally UK) - check
- Compete and show growth against upper tier SEC teams (3 Rivals) - check.

He did all this in year 1 (7-5) with a depleted roster and less talent, than what both our prior two coaches had and they went 5-7 in year ones and lost in terrible fashions.

Not saying Huep is long term answer, but gives me hope after year one. If he can recruit here, get a competent defense in place, upgrade the talent do whwt he's supposed to, then that should lend to 8-4 to 10-2 type averages. Which could at least give us stability, and make a run every few years.

Take the article for what it is, a flat out guess. We've been seeing this crap every time we hire a new coach.

One glaring item not mentioned in the article, though stating that offense now rules the game, we need to vastly improve on defense - not scheme but with players. Our guys were worn out in the 3rd quarter and the only way to overcome this is to have more able bodies on the bench, through both recruiting and development.

I do agree that our offense will put up points and eat up yards . . . at break-neck speed!

GBO

Winning the turnover battle would help the Defense more than anything. A good front 4 disrupting QBs could be the key to some picks by our DBs. It's got to happen that way we are not deep enough to go toe to toe while scoring quickly and putting the D on the field for a record-breaking number of plays. I think with experienced QB and offense as a whole we are set on that side. Hope springs eternal GBO.

People use the word “accept” as if they don’t want to win a championship because they don’t want a guy fired who won 9 games.

The problem with Saban and Belichek is they make the whole championship thing look easy.

Right now, you can finish the season with the #7 ranked team in the country and not even win your division.

Not sure what’s funny. Dline will struggle. A Taylor gone. Theo gone. Lot of recruits will get a chance to play but most are developmental. SEC will get better scheming against our offense is a fact.

Yes Alonte is gone. Him and Matthews played well. Neither played at an elite level. Theo was okay. All of those guys are highly replaceable. The SEC was scheming for this offense before the season, still didn't help them.
