Les Miles thread (merged)

Miles success came before all his top assistant left and before all the surrounding universities started winning more games and recruiting better. Give him an elite staff and he can win games, but I don't see UTAD going that route.

Only chance I could see Miles coming to Kville is if Chavis came with him. Which probably isnt happening.

Um Les Miles and Chavis hate each other. Both took each other to court. There is no love between the two.

However, it would be interesting to see if Les could get Aranda to come over from LSU.

He has the name recognition.

What was the last recruit that Gruden got to sign to play college football?

Like someone else pointed out, Pete Carroll's college coaching resume was also pretty thin before taking over at USC in 2001. There are no guarantees but Gruden has the charisma of someone who would build a rapport with high school coaches, parents and players very quickly.

Agreed on Pete Carroll

However Pete Carroll didn't take 9 years off from coaching before taking the USC job.

And that's a MAJOR difference

I understand but time to look at reality. A proven retread is what this program needs...

I know we all have Tennessee pride but self awareness is a great tool to have.

Tennessee has not been revelant as a proven winner year in and out in 19 years.

That's longer than the players whoever is the coach is has to talk into coming to play at Tennessee have been ALIVE!!!!

Self awareness, let's get someone that can win 10 games a year for NOW become a household name again not a punchline.

Can't gamble this hire or Tennessee will be recruiting kids that their PARENTS haven't seen Tennessee be successful year in and out.

Wait...your argument for Miles is that he can set things up for the next coach?????

Would be best fit at Tennessee.

1. Great recruiter
2. Had best teams in league behind Alabama for years in a dominating West division
3. Can get his missing piece with Tennessee's abilities to recruit quarterbacks.
4. Knows the SEC landscape and the relationships with high school coaches in the region
5. Would now have his team in the East division

6. We would get to see what John Kelly, ty chandler COULD actually do!!!

He recruited as good or better than Saban but couldn't get it done. I like Les but he has coaching flaws..........

plus we already have turf problems without him grazing!

So we can't develop offense or QBs and Les Miles is your choice? Aw hell, why not? At least then we'd be complaining about 10+ win seasons and just missing the CFP.....

I thought the hate was between Chavis and the AD for how they handled his buyout, while Miles was just sort of caught in-between?

Couldve sworn I read something saying Chavis issues werent with Les but with LSU AD, as LSU AD changed the contract after he signed it.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong...

I don't remember how all that shook out. However important to note that LSU changed AD's during Les Miles tenure. That can cause some strife and problems in the big $$$ sports.

And this is an AD who hired Ed ogeron his interim coach... smh

So seeing that I'm even more in favor of les Miles

We are not gonna find a coach that consistently beats Saban. One likely doesnt exist. I think Miles would have us ruling the East. Think about it, about the only reason he didnt rule the SEC was because of Saban.

Every coach has flaws.

Les Miles is my # 1 Choice. He knows the SEC and he can compete and win the East and maybe the SEC Championship. Of course he will have to have the players to do this and a supportive staff. He knows how to win in the SEC. This is important to remember.

He never finished worse than third in the SEC West. Won a NC and made it to another. Won 2 SEC Titles. Yeah I would happily take Les.

6-8 in the SECW from 2014 through Auburn 2016, he was 2-4 over his last six SECW games, last year and this year would have probably been a disaster, if he had continued. imo There is no lining up your big guys and doing a pitch dive right now with this group.

It was very apparent that the LSU players were not buying in against Wisconsin last year.

I wouldn't complain about Les. We could do alot worse , with some names that have been suggested on here.

Les’ main issue has been OC hires. Make him hire a talented OC and there are no issues. That’s a fact. Business 101 says he has to change his philosophy if he wants another big job. He would easily make that change.

I'm not saying he's at the top of my list, but I think with the right OC he could find success again.

Why would he easily make the change? He wouldn't make the change to keep from getting fired. Les got fired for a reason and it wasn't because he was winning too much.

Well you see, he got fired for sticking to his offensive philosophy. For him to get another job, as I said, he would have to make that change. It’s business 101. If he really wants another big job, which I think he’s fully capable of with a talented OC, he has would make that change easily.
