Legend Bey Requested Release

I haven’t followed every minute of it but it sounds like he wanted to go to tOSU. His mom wanted him at TN. Because he is a minor she wouldn’t let him sign (maybe even forged his signature). He turned 18 and asked for his release.

Honestly, if he doesn’t want to be here I wouldn’t try to trap him.

Hell, he may transfer back one day. No need to burn the bridge.
Yes you are right, the Vols got dragged into a domestic dispute. The spoil OSU fans made it worse with their behavior and by attacking the social media making it worse. Free for All type attitude.
Quickly turned into a bunch of fans chasing a shinny object or female that was not worth the effort. Hope he does not regret his decision, but think that he will in the long haul.

Omg somehow two of Ohio States Facebook groups hit my timeline. It was regarding Tennessee releasing him. They are celebrating and blaming us for the kids signing in the first place. This is the smse fanbase that wished him torn acls in both knees when his signing happened with Tennessee. They are a horrible fanbase.

Not surprising, people from Ohio are weird

OSU has dominated most of its "rivals" since before my grandparents were born (pre-Great Depression).

They are a team that hasn't had consecutive losing seasons since Calvin Coolidge was president (1924/1925) and have been below .500 just twice since the moon landing. It's bred a generational entitlement mentality in their fanbase.

To them, the only explanation for losing a recruit to Tennessee is the player being the victim of some kind of nefarious plot.

For your first point, the lack of portal signees at need positions vs other programs who 'work' the portal tells me what I need to know. Pretend that programs don't tinker with players if you want. Might as well assume that Bama never paid players before NIL. It's the 'rules' but it isn't how the system works. Heupel seems to just wait, see who drops, and try and sign them. Other programs seem to 'know' who is going to drop, and amazingly snatch them the moment they do. Or the players drop with do not contact requests. Again, the circumstantial evidence tells me what I need to know.

For your second point, it has been widely known since signing day that what happened with Bey was likely to happen. It was a topic of discussion on this board. If Heupel didn't know, he is amazingly out of the loop. IMHO, he just 'hoped' for the best and sat still until his hand was forced.

Heupel is just far too passive in too many areas. Another person replied to my post with the need for a GM. I would agree. Heupel isn't a proactive person. He needs one on staff, and a GM is an excellent fill.

Just my .02.
I agree with all of this.

Payback coming when we get McClain in portal. A much better player and starter.

dont let the door hit ya on the rear…..be funny if he goes up there and is a bust

I don't think he'll be a bust, but...there's a level of immaturity there, not all that uncommon in teenagers (right?)...that can slow or limit growth when now you're playing on a team where almost everyone else has your physical talent level.

So he can be a Boo, or he can be a Boom. Time will tell.

I dont understand all the vitriol towards the kid. He didnt want to come here, but was essentially forced to sign with us because of his mom. Why is it his fault? If anything, it sounds like his mom is being unreasonable with him and imposing HER wishes on him instead of respecting his. She's the "villain" here, not Legend.

Thank goodness we finally came to the conclusion to cut bait.
If this is a fact….

Who in their right mind would think that the staff was trying to hold on to him? Bet there was more documents signed than the LETTER with legal and financial implications that had to be cleaned up, have to believe we required a written request for the release detailing our actions throughout the entire process, due diligence I think would require that. Once in hand we gave him his do-over.

Hate we don’t have this twitchy athlete whose skill set most reminds me of ERIC Locke…. Never paid the big dividends we all hoped for. So I won’t go off the rails till he produces. The potential seems to be there.

Unless new info has surfaced, sounds like his mother (and perhaps brother) forced him here. If that's the case, he's not at fault - nor "toxic" - and I question why Heupel even signed him. Rescinding the offer would have side-stepped this.
I think it’s deeper than that. He was torn between the 2 schools however he bailed on Ohio st when they looked at another receiver. He’s definitely a drama queen!

Sounds like Bey needs to attend pre-school/kindergarten for a year before he decides where he really wants to go..
Not everyone wants to work at the same place. It is clear he does not want to be here. Give it a rest . It is his life to live, not ours to live it for him.

Calm down Skippy. First time I've commented on his decision and it was meant to be humorous. Personally, IDGAF where he footballs at..

Sounds like he’s on par with Boo but she’s nothing like Boo’s mom.

What if her wishes were right ? I would resist trying to categorize his mom as aligning with Mayshack’s Mom or Boo’s Mom on the Mom spectrum till some time goes by, her dealings with both staffs gave her an impression and it is possible her adult readings were more accurate than his.

It is possible his career at each place could be a push, but the SUPPORT group could attend more games at an SEC school than. BIG school and they valued that more than him. An SEC bias living in Texas is not uncommon.

Can’t sign anywhere till NSD I don’t think, so it will be interesting to follow him FROM A DISTANCE. I will not rule out another closer school getting involved and a family compromise over his career. IF MOM AIN’T HAPPY..,,,, especially if she is right.

Regardless, right or wrong, it should be HIS decision. If he decides a year or two down the road that he chose wrong and wants to transfer, then he can. But parents should not be imposing ultimatums on where their kids can and cant go play football. They can suggest, they can offer input/advice. But the decision should still be Legend's, not mom's.

They both had rights to decisions, if her’s was OSU is not best and would not be a party to it his should have been to wait till NSD when she was not required.

KEY questions….

Who called us on signing day requesting papers be processed? Him or Mom?

Did he authorize their transmission!

These are decisions too.

We fixed it where the right thing is once again possible. Cost him nothing. Mom can support her son too, bet she does, and not compromise her principles. Had to do that with my kids down through the years when they went against parental advice.

This situation is akin to co-signing for a car, she would have skin in the game and passed on OSU and would accept UT. Doubt she had a gun on him,
