If you believe I am the only one you haven't read this thread.I'm sure she has become a better coach since then but her time at Missouri State has nothing to do with our discussion. I said her time at NC State was a failure. Everyone else I've seen, from those for hiring KJH to those against have admitted her time at NC State was a failure. KJH herself has said her time there was a failure. If you believe the scuttlebutt around Fulmer, then her time at NC State has given him serious reservations about hiring her.
The only person I've seen try to justify her record there is you, on the basis that it really didn't suck that bad because she was able to feast on enough cupcakes to sneak into a couple of postseason tournaments (which she never won a game) despite getting dominated within the ACC. Fine, whatever. If that makes you feel better, then go with that. Either way, this conversation has grown tiresome...
I get the feeling that Fulmer wanted Lawson all along and she was on the fence regarding a decision. I think she took a few days to think it over and decided this weekend. I believe with Kara originally on the fence, they went down to Tampa to interview a few more people but Fulmer eventually got the answer he was seeking from Kara. We'll see what happens...Very depressing how the pool of candidates seems to get less impressive as time goes on. Did Phil really need to travel to Tampa for the LV reunion selection...?

In what way does Kara NOT best our former “experienced” coach!?
I have thought about Lawson as a coach the last couple of years. At this point, I don’t think we are getting a coach that is regularly in the Elite 8 or more year in and year out. I would have liked Walz, but apparently, there is some issue that the AD has with him. The others are probably entrenched in their programs. When you start getting past that group, it is kind of a crap shoot because let’s be real after the top 12 or so, everyone is kinda in the same boat. I think Kellie is an emotional hire that has had some success as a head coach. Will that revitalize the program? I’m not so sure. I do know Kara would be taking a risk but also maybe a new approach, even if she is “in the family.” Recruits would know her, and she definitely commands respect. Put her with some experienced assistants who know how to navigate things and hope for the best. I think that is currently all we can expect at this point.
The only big time coach we could have gotten that would have had an immediate impact was Jeff Walz. Once some of the old timers put that out of play there was no one else. Truthfully, who else was there? Now we have this sad little list. If this is what we are left with, then I say go with Kara. Put some quality assistant coaches around her and let her at it. This could either be a masterpiece or a disaster, but at least it is not a mehhhh. ESPN likes to promote their own so we will get good coverage from them. While I still want Walz, who I think would have us back to final fours immediately, let’s see what Kara can do.
Agree. Niele would be worth gauging her interest, but I am not sure if she would leave.I think this could be the best case scenario with Kara Lawson. Get her some experienced, proven assistants to help guide her and with recruiting and we may have something. Can't be much worse than what else is out there. Niele Ivey would probably also be a good choice, but I am just not sure she would leave ND. Her son is a senior in HS next year and has an offer from ND to play basketball. She goes to just about every one of his games and if he stays and goes to ND, I don't believe she would leave. Now, if Barnes were to offer him here............
