I don't think anyone should be overlooked. Experience doesn't necessarily mean that you will do well neither does inexperience mean you will fail. The main thing to me would be the plan that's laid out in the interview. What's your vision, how do you plan to recruit and develop, and last but not least who is coming with you.

The fact that they didn't go back to the NCAA tournament in the 3 seasons after her first is the far more relevant issue here...

Let me repeat...She has NEVER been a coach...Not an assistant..NOTHING...She has no clue what to do there...And you would be willing to turn over a legendary program to someone like that?!?...Man I am glad you are not UT's AD...Wow

First of all she has coached either AAU team or Olympic team I don't remember which. Secondly our program hasn't been legendary in six years. We can disagree but at least know what you are talking about because it's obvious you don't.

If UT wants to stay within the Lady Vol family even without coaching experience I'd pick Lawson over all. This is only if the AD wants to stay within the family. Why? Because she is someone players/recruits see regularly and know. She is a name and personality who was a great tough determined player. Even without coaching experience if I had to choose from ex Lady Vols it would be her..Names like KJH, Jodi , Gordon mean nothing to the recruits now.

Lawson isn't in my top 10 I really think as I said in another post we need a Proven Div I coach in the vain of Geno, Tara, Staley Wlaz etc..Coaches at the top ! I'd roll the dice with a Lawson who lives and breathes sports if I was limited to only ex Lady Vols.

Is it really? She took a losing team and in her first season took that losing team to the NCAA tournament, a team that made there first trip in 3 years and it is more relevant that she didn't take them the other 3 seasons? She had 1 losing season in her 2nd season. She has now taken a mid major and not even a top flight mid major to the NCAA tournament 2 out of the past 4 seasons and just this season upset 2 power 5 schools in the tournament. That has a lot to do with coaching because there is no way she had more talent than DePaul or Iowa State.

I know exactly what I am talking about...She helped coach the AAU team ONCE, That does not qualify her to coach Tennessee...A winner of 8 National titles and numberous final 4's...We hired a coach who HAD coaching experience in Holly and we see how that turned out...Fans like you scare the hell out of me because you have absolutely no clue and will take whoever the press tells you is being interviewed if they are qualified or not...I bet you were one of those who wanted Tee Martin to come back to be UT's head coach too weren't you?....Just nod your head that's will be enough.

No on Tee but AAU is coaching you said she has never coached. Talking about 8 national championships that was a life time ago. At this point Tennessee is the bottom of the SEC.

And to be honest I said 2 years ago I would want Lawson that my opinion. To me she has every ingredient to be a great coach.

Yes, by far. The longer the coach is at the school, the more of her own players on the roster she has recruited and more of her own system she can implement...

So by your own theory she is actually becoming a much better coach now as proven by her results at Missouri State. You realize you are arguing against your own thought process in this thread?

Pat was 22 she grew up with the girls she coached, pat had determination was raised that way. No one out there with that mindset. Especially with dollar store pay

I like Kara Lawson she may not have coached any games but her basketball knowledge is on a very high level. I think she would hire the best Assistants not just bodies on the bench every top coach has a top Associate coach working in their program. If we were to go with Kara would be all in she would be an excellent choice.

I'm sure she has become a better coach since then but her time at Missouri State has nothing to do with our discussion. I said her time at NC State was a failure. Everyone else I've seen, from those for hiring KJH to those against have admitted her time at NC State was a failure. KJH herself has said her time there was a failure. If you believe the scuttlebutt around Fulmer, then her time at NC State has given him serious reservations about hiring her.

The only person I've seen try to justify her record there is you, on the basis that it really didn't suck that bad because she was able to feast on enough cupcakes to sneak into a couple of postseason tournaments (which she never won a game) despite getting dominated within the ACC. Fine, whatever. If that makes you feel better, then go with that. Either way, this conversation has grown tiresome...
