Give us your reasons that don’t involve phrases like “we are Tennessee”
Well last year’s results certainly don’t apply to WVU. They have the best everything. I bet they also have the best S&C too. Their DL has probably beefed up and put on 40-50 pounds of solid muscle in the off season. I think there has been video posted from the WVU S&C program.Last years results only apply to UT man. On the other hand WVU definitely isn't the same team that went 7-6 and only beat 2 teams that finished with a winning record last year. Get it straight.
No problem man. Your original reply was definitely NOT what I was going for haha. I'm just tired of seeing that UT will be bad this year because they were terrible last year. But WVU, who was also pretty mediocre last year, will be world beaters this year because 2017 is in the past and you know... Will Grier. It's contradictory. The common denominator between 2017 and 2018 WVU is still over there and that's a 7-5 average coach.EDIT: My sarcasm meter is broke.. Maybe Saturday needs to hurry up so we're not so anxious![]()
He also worked for the best defensive mind and best HC of all time Nick Saban. So, how do you know that it was HIS defensive mind and not just the fact that he worked for Nick?
Yea I believe their arrogance and their blue and gold tinted glasses has them in for a bad year. Not sure how they think they can bring in 2 grad transfers or whatever they are and all of the sudden be a dominant defense. Way too many unknowns as of right now for them to think they will walk over a team with more talent IMO.. Anyway, I apologize for the snippy reply and hope we beat the brakes off of WV.. GBONo problem man. Your original reply was definitely NOT what I was going for haha. I'm just tired of seeing that UT will be bad this year because they were terrible last year. JMO, but the team with the most talent usually wins the game. On paper, our OL is going to be much better. We are good at all skill positions. QB is a small concern, but I truly believe we will be fine there. Switching to a 3-4 might be an issue, but there is a lot of talent on that side of the ball. CB's would concern me, except Pruitt is the CB whisperer.
I think Butch did such a lousy job - especially last year, that we are going to see improvement everywhere. Butch ran a stupid offense that I always hated (even when it was moving the ball with Dobbs, it never felt right). Butch killed the Defense with all the 3 and outs and the amount of time they were on the field (plus all the injuries). I just think we have too much talent to not have a good season. WV is overrated. Grier is overrated. Sills has been phenomenal. our Defense will get after Grier and he will make mistakes. We will dominate the Line of scrimmage and eat up clock. I may have too much faith in this coaching staff, but they have a lot of good pieces to work with and I think it translate to wins on the field.
Completely agree with everything you said."they got dudes on offense"
lol. i'm sure they're preparing just fine. but i do think there's a bit of an element of surprise on our part, that has at least caused some anxiety on their part.
gonna be real interesting to see how they line up against us on defense. offensively, i think they'll try to test the pass rush and CB's early.
Yeah, I get that and I'm not knocking the guy. I'm just knocking the guy claiming he's some kind of defensive savant when we havent seen the guy do it at a program that needs turning around. He was at FSU for one year under a HC with an already established championship level program and oh yeah Jameis Winston as the QB and he worked under Mark Richt who again was leading a high caliber program long before Pruitt was DC.
Again, I'm not bashing Pruitt I'm just saying that when we hired Butch Jones all everyone assumed how he knew how to win and look at what he did as HC of those other programs and that turned out to be a false assumption.
i have no doubt the defense will improve. but that's both a function of some better coaching, and that we were so bad, there's really no where to go but up. get this defense in to the top 50 nationally, and that's significant improvement lol.The defenses at each of the three schools were drastically improved during his tenure, and they regressed at least a bit as soon as he left. Or at least that was the case for FSU and UGA. Remains to be seen what happens at BAMA this year.
One of the things which actually gives me quite a bit of hope is his record of improving defenses in his first season as DC.
Is that how he always sounds? Does he always sound like his heart's in his throat and he can't bear the fact that he's about to see his favorite puppy thrown in a dog fight?"they got dudes on offense"

not sure about the puppy/dog fight, but in general, yeah, that's how he sounds. he's very matter of fact kind of guy, emtional....you've seen his reactions on the sidelines etc....just how he is. i think he's kind of tight, for a an offensive guy that likes to fling it around. Is that how he always sounds? He just sounded really nervous to me. Maybe that's just his demeanor. I don't know. But sounds, as you say, tight--and really nervous.not sure about the puppy/dog fight, but in general, yeah, that's how he sounds. he's very matter of fact kind of guy, emtional....you've seen his reactions on the sidelines etc....just how he is. i think he's kind of tight, for a an offensive guy that likes to fling it around.
i think he's the type that wants to jump all over someone early, so it takes the stress off making big important decisions later in the game. and if that goes badly, he tends to fold. great offensive mind though.
I hope he can improve it because there is a ton of improvement to be had.The defenses at each of the three schools were drastically improved during his tenure, and they regressed at least a bit as soon as he left. Or at least that was the case for FSU and UGA. Remains to be seen what happens at BAMA this year.

i don't worry about it early.I believe that he will enter that "panic" mode early if UT should score on their first offensive drive, especially if that drive is after receiving the opening kick-off.
