Well.... the Vols lost their second game of the season this past weekend.... all but ending any national title hopes. However, the game against Notre Dame was a non-conference game so the Vols still have the upper hand to represent the East in the SEC Championship game against Auburn. The task becomes a little tougher with the recent injuries to quarterbacks Brent Shaeffer and Erik Ainge.
The Vols will not receive an at-large BCS bid... so the rankings don't help them too much. A win over Auburn in the SECCG would give the Vols an automatic bid to a BCS bowl.
However, a top ten BCS finish would help in recruiting.... the Vols have finished in the BCS top twenty-five every year since 1998 (1st year of BCS).... and in the top ten 4 times >>> 1998 (#1), 1999 (#5), 2001 (#6), and 2003 (#8).
Here is the lastest BCS:
- USC
- Oklahoma
- Auburn
- California
- Wisconsin
- Texas
- Utah
- Georgia
- Michigan
- Boise State
- Virginia
-Florida State
- West Virginia
- Louisville
- Tennessee
- Arizona State
- Miami (FL)
- Virginia Tech
- LSU
- Iowa
