That video is obviously doctored. Everyone knows Tennessee was never on television and nobody ever attended the games before Pearl arrived.

Did we even field a team? I thought we just dropped basketball for 30 years after Mears retired.

That was my senior year at UT. I never missed a game my entire time there. Devoe was one of the greatest bench coaches ever. He lost a bit of his edge when he went through divorce, and when the NCAA instituted the 3 point line and shot clock...never really adjusted to it. But he still won with mediocre talent except for the early years when he had Crosby, R. Johnson, Carter, Wood, and Ellis.

I forgot about Dan Federman being on that team. I think he was a McDonald's All-American, but only had one good eye (no joke). He was a very good player, but never quite lived up to expectations he had coming out of high school.

Didn't we have one of those rubber floors? Those things were awful - the basketball version of artificial turf.

Federman's eyes were fine. Doug Roth had the bad eye.

Man you are old. . .I was a sophomore and at that game-we really gave Sir Charles a hard time, almost as bad as we gave Kentucky.

Ellis was my favorite. . ."put the ball in the hole, coach just said, put the ball in the hole, so I put the ball in the hole." Classic.

I used to love watching the replays of the games at Stokely on Channel 2. I was lucky to have parents that realized there were some things more important to a ten year old than a full night's sleep.

Amen on Devoe. Always thought we had a chance no matter how out-manned we were. Loved the team in the video: Dale was the best, absurd accuracy. Brooks was a zone killer and always hit the free throws down the stretch. Beaman was a fantastic point guard. Great D.

Yeah, played them the next year too and I think Dale had three cheap fouls (by which I mean lousy calls) in the first half that essentially cost them the game.

Believe it. That place rocked. Not a bad seat in the house. There was always a haze inside from the cigarette smoke. Ahhh, the good old days!

I remember working on a project in the ROTC offices one night while there was a basketball game going on. We got hungry so we ordered pizzas from Dominoes. I'll never forget the guy on the phone "You want me to deliver 4 pizzas to Stokley on a game night?" Our answer was "Yep, and remember, 30 minutes or its free. . ."

I started UT in 1994 so was never used for the Vols when I was there. We used it for intramural bball but can't imagine what it was like with the Vols playing there. Looks like it was rowdy

It was awesome. Think along the same lines as Carmichael gym at UNC. I always wanted them to play one game there each year -- say, Kentucky, and charge double for the tickets. But it's not up to code, and the cost to get it there would be inordinate.

Don DeVoe did more with less than any coach at UT which was his weakness..recruiting but he is as good a bench coach as there was before the shot clock. He is also a class act as a person and always represented UT in a professional manner. Doug Dickey gave him the shaft and that had a lot to do with our program doing poorly after his firing. He got the team back to the Big Dance and Dickey who looked at Basketball as an after thought let him go.

Does anyone else remember when Sir Charles played at Stokely that everytime he came down the court the fans held up pizza boxes?

They also used to put The Daily Beacon in every seat on the student side for the Ky game and when they annouced the Ky lineup we all held the papers up like we were reading them. Then when they started to announce the UT lineup they were thrown in the air
